Traditional Leaders Celebrate APC Gubernatorial Candidate Selection in Kwara North
Traditional rulers from the Kwara North Senatorial District visited Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq over the weekend to express their gratitude following the selection of Salihu Yakubu Danladi as the governorship candidate for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). This significant appointment marks a pivotal moment for the region in anticipation of the 2027 general elections.
Masfud Abdulrafiu Agboola, the Governor’s Deputy Chief Press Secretary, confirmed that the delegation was led by Etu Patigi, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar Borogi II, and emphasized the unity among the traditional leaders in support of their candidate.
The first-class traditional rulers conveyed their appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and Governor Abdulrazaq, lauding their efforts in ensuring that a candidate from Kwara North was chosen. Etsu Patigi expressed, “We are very grateful that one of our sons, Mr. Salihu Yakubu Danladi, will be the flag bearer of the APC governorship race in the 2027 general elections.”
During the visit at Ahmadu Bello House in Ilorin, the monarch added, “We appreciate everything you have done for us as a region. You have heard our cries, which have echoed for a long time, and by the grace of God, it is now realized through your leadership.”
The governor characterized the traditional leaders’ visit as a significant show of unity for the region, asserting that the selection of a candidate from Kwara North is essential for equity and fairness in the state’s leadership transition. “Moving political leadership among regions is crucial for fairness and development,” he noted, underlining the importance of harmony and cooperation. He pointed out that leadership rotation at the federal level has historically been between the North and South, promoting development and peace.
Abdulrazaq urged the residents of Kwara North and the wider community to rally behind Danladi and ensure a robust turnout at the polls. “This is a huge opportunity, and I cannot say when such an opportunity will arise again. We must prove that Kwara North is ready and capable of uniting our votes,” he emphasized, challenging the perception that the region is divided.
Concluding his remarks, the governor expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu for his pivotal role in the nomination process that led to the emergence of a candidate from Kwara North. “It was under his leadership that these critical issues were addressed fairly,” he affirmed.
Abdulrazaq also highlighted various developmental projects in Kwara North, including advancements in road infrastructure, healthcare facilities, and electrification initiatives. He reassured the traditional rulers present that Danladi’s nomination would further strengthen his administration’s commitment to the region’s advancement and welfare.
