Ambassador Blessing Hubala Sets Sights on Rivers Governorship
Ambassador Blessing Hubala Sr., younger brother to Rivers State Governor Siminalai Hubala, has announced his candidacy for the upcoming governorship election under the banner of the Nigeria Democratic Congress. He pledged that, if elected, he would serve only one term in office.
Making his declaration prior to the party’s primaries, Hubala characterized himself as a “ready, capable, and energetic” candidate dedicated to restoring peace, stability, and economic prosperity to Rivers State.
Highlighting the state’s struggles with economic decline and diminished dignity, he called for a collective political movement to reclaim Rivers’ lost status. “We are in a competent and trustworthy position to restore the soul of Nigeria along with Rivers State,” he expressed, reflecting on the pressing need for change.
Hubala lamented the existing political climate, remarking that Rivers is currently in a state of distress, reflecting a populace yearning for change. He noted, “We have lost opportunities, investments, and our national dignity, diminishing our pride as Rivers people.” His vision includes rejuvenating both peace and economic development if given the gubernatorial mantle.
Additionally, he stressed the importance of maintaining the state’s zoning arrangements, insisting that the Rivers South East Senatorial District must be allowed to complete its full eight-year term. “Now is the time for an all-out uprising to take back our state and restore the reputation of Rivers, known for economic vibrancy,” he asserted.
Hubala articulated that political power must reside with the people, not merely with financial backing. “We present ourselves as a choice for the state. While we may not challenge their fiscal capabilities, we possess a stronger connection to the people,” he stated.
He encouraged his supporters across Rivers’ 23 local governments to mobilize for the party primaries, rallying his two million followers to stand united at polling stations and demonstrate their commitment to revitalizing Rivers State. In a firm assertion of change, he emphasized, “We are endorsing a peaceful rotation in governance in accordance with the principles established by our Founding Fathers.”
Hubala reiterated his commitment to a single term of four years aimed at bringing prosperity and development to Rivers State. He warned that altering the political transition framework could set a troubling precedent, suggesting that such changes could irrevocably impact the governance of the state.
In a call for unity, he urged fellow candidates to put aside their ambitions and join the “people’s uprising,” aiming for a collaborative approach to transform Rivers State into a more prosperous and progressive region. “I would choose to support our collective call over individual aspirations any day,” he concluded, reinforcing the sentiment of togetherness for the betterment of Rivers State.
