He was subsequently taken to the Federal Medical Center in Makurdi, where he passed away early the following morning.

The forum detailed how Salihu began his career as an administrative officer, gaining hands-on experience in governance. His impressive contributions eventually led to his appointment as the SSG from 2011 to 2015 under former Governor Gabriel Suswam. During his tenure, he distinguished himself with strong leadership, intellectual depth, and a practical grasp of governance principles, earning widespread respect from across the political spectrum.
Salihu’s unique ability to merge academic expertise with practical governance made him one of the state’s most esteemed administrators.
A Lasting Impact in Academia
Beyond his public service, Professor Salihu made significant contributions to academia. At the time of his death, he was a Professor of Public Administration and former Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Federal University of Wukari. Throughout his career, he mentored countless students and made noteworthy contributions to the discourse on governance and public policy.
The forum noted that his academic work addressed critical national issues, including intergovernmental relations and strategies for resolving Nigeria’s persistent herder-farmer conflicts. Salihu was respected for his ability to create a bridge between theoretical knowledge and practical application, having worked in government before returning to academia to educate future leaders.
A Community Leader Committed to His Roots
The Ochetoha Kidoma Forum further acknowledged the late professor as a committed community leader who remained grounded despite his extensive achievements. He was actively involved in the progress of his native Apa Local Government Area in Benue State, where he was celebrated for his humility, accessibility, and unwavering dedication to community development.

The forum highlighted his role as a devoted Christian, husband, and father, instilling values of faith, discipline, and integrity within his family.
Urgent Action Required Against Rising Insecurity
The Ochetoha Kidoma Forum, while mourning the passing of the former SSG, voiced serious concerns over the deteriorating security situation nationwide, particularly regarding the rise in attacks on rural areas and travelers. They lamented the increasing danger on highways, which have become hotspots for criminal activity.
The forum underscored the urgent need for enhanced security measures to safeguard lives and property. They pointed out that the daylight murder of a prominent figure like Professor Salihu raises significant questions about public safety. While confirming that Operation Whirl Stroke had engaged suspects believed to be responsible for the attack, the forum called on security agencies to intensify their efforts until all involved are arrested and prosecuted. They urged both the federal and state governments to prioritize restoring security, allowing citizens to travel and conduct their affairs without fear.

The Ochetoha Kidoma Forum expressed that Professor Salihu’s tragic death represents an immeasurable loss not only to his immediate family but also to the Idoma people, Benue State, and Nigeria at large. They affirmed that his enduring legacy of scholarship, public service, integrity, and community leadership will continue to inspire future generations.
In their statement, they extended condolences to Salihu’s wife, children, relatives, colleagues, students, and peers, praying for strength during this difficult time. The forum also prayed for the repose of his soul, hopeful that his contributions to public administration, education, and national development will not fade from memory. They concluded by maintaining that, despite the tragic circumstances of his death, his influence on governance, academia, and regional advancement will endure as a lasting source of inspiration.
