IMT Enugu Achieves Full Accreditation for All Academic Programs
Sunday Ngoji Ogbodo, Chancellor of the Institute of Management Technology (IMT) in Enugu, has announced that the institution has successfully achieved full accreditation for all its academic programs. This significant milestone underscores IMT’s commitment to maintaining high educational standards and enhancing its academic reputation.
New Skills Acquisition Program Introduced
In addition to the accreditation news, Mr. Ogbodo revealed the launch of a mandatory skills acquisition program designed to equip students with essential entrepreneurial skills prior to graduation. This initiative aims to prepare graduates for the competitive job market while fostering innovation and self-sufficiency.
Alumni Association Visit Highlights Achievements
Ogbodo made these announcements during a courtesy visit from members of the IMT Alumni Association, coinciding with the inaugural IMT Enugu Global Homecoming, scheduled to take place from June 11 to June 14, 2026. This event serves as an opportunity for alumni to reconnect and contribute to the future growth of their alma mater.
Significant Improvements Under New Leadership
In his remarks, Ogbodo outlined the substantial progress made under his leadership. Since assuming office 18 months ago, he noted that the university has experienced remarkable advancements in academic excellence, operational efficiency, and infrastructure development. At the time of his appointment, over 70 percent of the programs had lost accreditation, a challenge he has overcome with the support of the Enugu State Government and Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mba.
Expansion of Academic Programs
The Chancellor also announced the introduction of eight new academic programs, including specialized fields such as taxation, locomotive engineering, computer engineering, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity, as well as a diploma in law. This expansion reflects IMT’s commitment to diversifying its educational offerings to meet emerging industry needs.
Collaboration with Leading Universities
IMT is currently collaborating with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and the University of Port Harcourt (UniPort) to offer various degree programs. This partnership is expected to further enhance the quality of education provided and expand opportunities for students.
Initiatives Focused on Vocational Skills and Community Engagement
Another key initiative, the ‘One Diploma, One Skill’ program, aims to ensure that all students acquire vocational skills alongside their academic qualifications. The university has also established its bakery, producing bread for the campus community, with plans for future expansion. Efforts are underway to attract industry partners to set up operations at the institution, promoting practical learning and community engagement.
Governor Mba’s Support and Future Prospects
Ogbodo shared that Governor Mba plans to unveil the first domestically produced transformer manufactured by IMT soon. He expressed gratitude towards the IMT Alumni Association, led by National President Agodi Kanu, for their role in organizing the Global Homecoming event and their ongoing contributions to the institution’s development.
Global Homecoming Event Promises Networking and Charity Initiatives
Mr. Kanu emphasized that the Global Homecoming offers a valuable platform for alumni to network and actively support the university’s mission. He announced plans for this event to recur biennially, with a commitment of five million naira from the association for campus beautification and scholarships for outstanding students in both National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) categories.
As part of the homecoming festivities, alumni participated in a facility tour of the IMT Sculpture Park and Museum, guided by the Deans of the Faculty of Art, Design, and Printing Technology, as well as the Faculty of Industrial Design. Additionally, alumni members engaged in charitable activities, including visits to the Mother of Christ Mother and Child Home at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Enugu. The Global Homecoming 2026 events will continue with lectures, fitness activities, an awards ceremony, and a gala dinner.
