ISN Medical Targets Expansion in West Africa
Felix Ofunwu, Managing Director and CEO of ISN Medical, has announced an ambitious expansion strategy aimed at enhancing medical diagnostics in the West African market. This initiative is designed to address existing gaps in healthcare services across the region.
Local Operations and Consumer Healthcare Growth
Ofunwu emphasized that the company’s upcoming growth phase will concentrate on establishing robust local operations and expanding ISN Medical’s consumer healthcare portfolio. The goal is to play a pivotal role in transforming healthcare across Africa.
Current Reach and Future Plans
Presently, ISN Medical employs personnel in four countries in West and Central Africa, serving customers across 21 African nations. Ofunwu indicated that the company is not only poised for further regional expansion but is also exploring the possibilities of local manufacturing of medical supplies in Nigeria.
Challenges in Nigeria’s Healthcare Market
Despite these advancements, Ofunwu noted that Nigeria’s healthcare landscape presents significant challenges, primarily due to low health insurance coverage. He explained that the majority of Nigerians still rely on direct payments for healthcare services, which makes the market particularly sensitive to pricing. In contrast to countries like Rwanda, which enjoy higher insurance penetration rates, Nigeria’s market remains complex and demanding.
Collaboration for Solutions at WHX Lagos 2026
Looking ahead to the World Health Expo (WHX) scheduled for June 2-4, 2026, in Lagos, Ofunwu expressed ISN Medical’s commitment to collaborating with other industry professionals to develop solutions to Nigeria’s healthcare challenges. He underscored the necessity of teamwork in overcoming these obstacles, clarifying that participation in the expo is not aimed at increasing sales.
Innovation in Cancer Diagnosis
Judith Obi, Director of Diagnostics at ISN Medical, highlighted the company’s dedication to innovative solutions in cancer diagnosis and research. She explained that ISN Medical goes beyond merely supplying high-end medical equipment, instead focusing on empowering healthcare professionals to achieve optimal results through advanced diagnostic solutions.
The Role of AI in Healthcare
Ify Chioke, Director of Consumer Health Products, stated that the company’s mission is to innovate within the Nigerian healthcare ecosystem to ensure peace of mind for both healthcare workers and patients. Rodolphe Vechenou, Director of Life Sciences, added that artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly integral in genomics, particularly for analyzing extensive genetic data from DNA sequencing. This technology is part of ISN Medical’s life sciences offerings and holds the potential to enhance healthcare delivery in Nigeria significantly.
Improving Outcomes through AI and Genomics
Vechenou elaborated that the use of AI in processing DNA sequencing data is crucial for clinical applications. By comparing patient genomes to reference genomes, AI can identify mutations and their potential clinical implications. This advancement not only promises to improve healthcare outcomes but also aims to minimize medical errors and reduce treatment costs for patients.
