Singh Dominates at ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open
The ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open saw Jenny Singh take charge at Dundonald Links, overcoming challenging winds as Lottie Ward, Charlie Hull, and Nelly Korda struggled. Singh currently holds a commanding five-shot lead after her impressive performance.
Lauren Coughlin, who shared the lead with Singh overnight at six under par, faced difficulties as well. She recorded a score of two over par during her first nine holes but regrouped to finish level par, bringing her total to four under after 36 holes.
Despite a wobbly beginning that included a bogey on the first hole, Singh built momentum from her remarkable opening round of 66. She ended the day with a solid five-under 67, establishing a commanding lead of five strokes over Esther Henseleit, who sits in second place at 11 under.
Henseleit Advances with Strong Finish
Starting on the back nine, Henseleit moved up to second place after hitting birdies on the 16th and 17th holes. She then completed the par-5 third hole with an eagle, finishing at six under after 36 holes.
The cut line was set at six over par, with Hull navigating precariously above it following a challenging first round of 78. The British golfer found her rhythm and recorded a one-under-par 71, featuring four birdies and three bogeys, which lifted her to five over for the tournament.
Meanwhile, Georgia Hall, a close friend of Hull and fellow competitor, struggled significantly. After posting a 10-over score in the second round, she dropped to a total of 14 over, marking an unfortunate end to her campaign as she missed the cut.
Ward Finds Some Form Despite Putting Woes
Ward, the defending champion, had a rocky start but significantly improved by the second round. After completing her first round at two over par, she bounced back, recording a double bogey on the 12th but quickly regained momentum with back-to-back birdies at the 14th and 15th holes.
Despite encountering putting difficulties, Ward expressed satisfaction with her ball-striking during the round. She turned at two over and added more birdies on the third and fifth holes to return to level par.
World No. 1 Nelly Korda began the day at level par but found herself at four over by the end of the second round. After starting on the back nine, she worked her way down to two under after six holes before facing setbacks, including bogeys on 16 and a double bogey on 17. Although Korda managed to record a birdie on the fifth hole, she ultimately finished the second round with a score of 76, landing at four over.
Anna Nordqvist, the Solheim Cup captain, floundered after an initial performance of two under. In her second round, she scored 79, resulting in a total of five over through 36 holes.
