Jenny Shin Holds Lead at Women’s Scottish Open
South Korean golfer Jenny Shin extended her lead to five strokes after the third round of the Women’s Scottish Open on Saturday, edging closer to securing her first LPGA Tour victory since the Texas Shootout more than ten years ago.
Competitive Field Trails Shin
Shin maintained her ascendancy from the very beginning and finished the day with a round of 71, one under par. She concluded the third round at 12 under par, placing her five strokes ahead of Thailand’s Pajari Anannarkhan, who rose from fourth to second after a flawless round of 69.
Challengers in Pursuit
Japan’s Erika Hara and Germany’s Esther Henseleit are in close contention at five under par, just two strokes behind Shin. South Korea’s Kim Ah Lim sits in fifth place at three under, while Japan’s Miyu Yamashita and the 2024 champion Lauren Coughlin follow closely, one stroke off the pace.
Singh Reflects on Round
Singh, who is vying for the title, expressed that the day had its challenges. “It was a very tough round. I was pretty nervous for the first five holes, so I was really happy to end the day with a red number. It was a pretty boring and nerve-wracking day at the same time,” she remarked.
Adjustments for Conditions
She acknowledged a specific challenge during her play, particularly on the 10th hole. “It was quite windy this week, which caused me to alter my setup. I fell back into my original habit and realized what I needed to correct,” she explained, demonstrating her ability to adapt under pressure.
Strategies for Success
Singh emphasized the importance of hitting fairways and setting up opportunities for greenside play. “I have a strong short game, so missing the green doesn’t worry me as long as I hit it in the right spot,” she noted.
Facing New Challenges
With her significant lead, Singh admitted to unfamiliarity with the situation. She plans to practice to cultivate a sense of confidence ahead of the final round. “I was uncertain during my first putt today, which added to my nerves. I intend to work on my routine tonight to ensure I am in a better mindset tomorrow,” she concluded.
Henseleit on Her Performance
Esther Henseleit, a Solheim Cup standout, shared her experiences during the week. “I’ve been playing tough all week. Although I felt a bit unlucky with my lies on the first two holes, I managed to regroup and perform well afterward,” she said, acknowledging her ability to recover despite a challenging start.
