JuiceMe Expands Reach Through Acquisition of Ajiraworks
Nairobi-based workforce infrastructure company JuiceMe has successfully acquired Ajiraworks, a compliance-oriented employment firm operating in both the UK and Kenya. This strategic move aims to accelerate JuiceMe’s growth on the African continent and enhance its capabilities in managing employer records.
Acquisition Focuses on Operational Excellence
The acquisition emphasizes integrating operational systems, enhancing compliance frameworks, and leveraging organizational knowledge. Unlike traditional acquisitions, this deal is not primarily about expanding the customer base but rather about fortifying internal capacities.
Enhancing Market Position with Regulatory Expertise
With this transaction, JuiceMe gains access to Ajiraworks’ robust regulatory framework, well-defined go-to-market strategies, and established partnerships across various African jurisdictions. These assets are invaluable, as they would typically take years to develop through organic growth.
Leadership Transition and Strategic Vision
Catherine Ochako, the founder of Ajiraworks, will transition to a pivotal role at JuiceMe as the global director and employer of record, joining the company’s board as a shareholder. With over a decade of experience in cross-border employment, Ochako previously built a registered employer function from the ground up and expanded operations across 29 markets, managing teams in the UK, South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya.
Tackling Barriers in the African Labor Market
Ajiraworks was established to address significant obstacles faced by global companies entering the African labor market. These challenges include regulatory fragmentation, inconsistent payment structures, and the complexities of navigating multiple jurisdictions, all of which can hinder swift hiring decisions.
Facilitating Growth While Ensuring Compliance
Ochako emphasized the importance of structured growth, stating that while speed is crucial when entering new markets, the right framework is essential to mitigate risks. JuiceMe’s acquisition of Ajiraworks will enable companies to develop scalable systems while ensuring they remain compliant and in control of their operations.
Positioning for a Booming Market
Co-founder Lawrence Diamond remarked that this partnership reflects a calculated acceleration of JuiceMe’s growth trajectory rather than a change in strategy. He noted that Ochako and her team have already addressed many operational and compliance hurdles associated with cross-border employment, and that integrating this expertise will facilitate quicker expansion across Africa while providing essential local knowledge.
Expanding Employer of Record Services
This acquisition is timely as demand surges for compliant, scalable employment infrastructure in Africa. Multinational companies are increasingly seeking talent within the continent, drawn by cost efficiencies, demographic depth, and enhancing digital skills capabilities. Employer of Record services have become a preferred entry point for businesses aiming to operate effectively without establishing a local subsidiary.
In her new role, Ochako is tasked with developing a structured employment tier that empowers companies to hire, compensate, and manage talent fully compliant with regulatory requirements across Africa.
