Keystone Bank Partners to Enhance Mobility for Persons with Disabilities
Keystone Bank has reaffirmed its dedication to promoting social inclusion through a collaborative initiative with the Akwa Ibom State Government and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This partnership aims to distribute wheelchairs and walking aids to individuals with disabilities in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The initiative also included a three-day capacity-building program designed for local clinicians and artisans with disabilities, equipping them with essential skills to support their communities.
In a statement released on Monday, Keystone Bank emphasized that the initiative seeks to improve access to mobility assistance services while simultaneously fostering local expertise to ensure sustainable support for people with disabilities. Participants engaged in hands-on training, focusing on the assembly, installation, repair, maintenance, and adaptation of wheelchairs and mobility aids, thus acquiring vital skills for personalized community assistance.

During the closing ceremony, Princess Emem Ibanga, the Akwa Ibom State Secretary for Humanitarian Affairs, described the intervention as a pivotal step toward enhancing the mobility, independence, and dignity of persons with disabilities in the state. She highlighted the program’s ability to reinforce the state’s capacity for sustainable service delivery through locally trained experts while praising the alliance between Keystone Bank and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for their commitment to uplifting vulnerable populations.
Elder Enefiok Tom Ntem, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, expressed that the initiative embodies the church’s dedication to compassion and humanitarian service, emphasizing the importance of aiding those in need.
Beneficiaries received tailored wheelchairs and walking aids, and the trained clinicians and artisans were awarded certificates, affirming their commitment to using their new skills to support persons with disabilities throughout Akwa Ibom State.
