Lagos State Launches Health Insurance Program for Residents
In a bid to alleviate the financial strain of healthcare expenses on residents, the Lagos State Lottery and Gaming Authority has rolled out free health insurance packages for 1,320 individuals across the state’s three senatorial districts. This initiative aims to enhance access to essential health services for the community.
Collaboration with Health Management Authority
The one-year health insurance program is being implemented in partnership with the Lagos State Health Management Authority under the ILERA EKO initiative. This collaboration is designed to extend comprehensive health coverage to vulnerable populations, highlighting the government’s commitment to improving public health.
Targeted Beneficiary Coverage
The program was launched simultaneously at various locations, with a focus on reaching 360 individual beneficiaries and 240 families. Each family can include up to four members, resulting in a total of 960 individuals benefitting from family coverage, which contributes to the overall total of 1,320 beneficiaries.
Commitment to Accessible Healthcare
During the launch event, Mr. Bashir Ale, CEO of the Lagos State Lottery and Gaming Authority, underscored the crucial role of accessible healthcare in enhancing the quality of life for residents. He reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s dedication to improving citizen welfare through strategic initiatives like the ILERA EKO health insurance program.
Locations of Program Implementation
The health coverage exercise took place over the weekend across designated centers in the three senatorial constituencies: Lagos Central, Lagos East, and Lagos West. Events were hosted in local assembly areas, with specific locations including the Ikorodu Local Government Office for the East segment and the Agege Youth Center for the West segment.
Premiums Fully Covered by the Authority
The Lagos State Lottery and Gaming Authority announced that it has fully funded the health insurance premiums for all beneficiaries for the entire year. This unprecedented intervention sets a new precedent for health initiatives in the region and reflects a progressive approach to social welfare.
Encouragement from Health Officials
Emmanuela Zamba, Permanent Secretary and CEO of LASHMA, also attended the event, highlighting the comprehensive range of health services available under the insurance policy. She urged beneficiaries to take full advantage of the scheme and assured them of high-quality health services at accredited hospitals throughout the state.
Wellness Checks Enhance Preventive Care
In a move to bolster public health, participants at all centers received complimentary basic health checkups, including blood pressure and fasting blood sugar tests. This focus on preventive healthcare complements the insurance coverage and reflects the Lagos State Government’s commitment to advancing universal health coverage through impactful partnerships and sustainable health initiatives.
