The AEF proposal was introduced during a meeting in Abuja, which featured a delegation led by Chief Engagement Officer Dr. Hope Uweja and the Vice-Chairman of the House Air Forces Committee, Rufus Ojuawo.

Dr. Uweja outlined that the initiative revolves around two main interventions: the establishment of a specialized medical center for veterans in Abuja and the introduction of a “Senior Life Program.” Designed to alleviate the financial burdens many veterans face, this program will provide ex-servicemen with access to discounted goods and services within Nigeria’s challenging economic landscape.
Addressing Security Threats in West Africa
Beyond welfare initiatives, the AEF also proposed organizing a security summit focused on the Sahel region. This summit aims to tackle emerging security threats throughout West Africa and to foster collaboration between policymakers and military entities.

Dr. Uweja explained that the proposed projects would be financed through a mixed funding model. This approach allows various stakeholders—including government bodies, private sector organizations, and development partners—to contribute in ways that align with their interests and resources.

Responding to the proposal, Mr. Ojuawo, a retired Air Vice Marshal, expressed his support, highlighting its relevance to ongoing efforts to enhance veteran welfare. He underscored that the House of Representatives is already deliberating on the Veterans Federation Bill, which is designed to create a structured framework addressing the medical, economic, and social needs of veterans.
Mr. Ojuawo invited the AEF to engage in public hearings regarding the bill and to submit suggestions to strengthen it.
