Leadway Assurance Partners with FRSC to Enhance Road Safety in Nigeria
Leadway Assurance, a prominent insurance provider and a subsidiary of Leadway Group, has joined forces with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in an initiative aimed at promoting road safety awareness and rewarding motorists who adhere to safety regulations through its “Arrive Alive” campaign.
Strengthening Public Awareness Through Collaboration
This partnership, which has flourished over several years, is reinforced by the launch of the “Arrive Alive” campaign. The initiative seeks to raise public consciousness about responsible driving, foster safer road behaviors, and encourage compliance with traffic regulations. Ultimately, the campaign aims to decrease preventable road accidents while cultivating a safety-first culture among road users throughout Nigeria.
Educational Initiatives to Promote Safe Driving
To kick off the campaign, a webinar titled “Arrive Alive Because Life is Priceless” featured presentations from notable speakers including FRSC Lagos State Sector Commander, Mr. Kehinde Hamzat, and Leadway’s Head of Technical Risk Management, Mr. Otuyemi Olatunde. They shared valuable insights on essential vehicle safety items, such as first aid kits and fire extinguishers, while addressing the primary causes of road accidents, including driver distractions, negligence, and unsafe road conditions.
Addressing Common Misconceptions and Proactive Safety Measures
The speakers also tackled prevalent misconceptions held by drivers, underscoring the necessity of proactive safety measures to avert avoidable road accidents. This informative session set the stage for subsequent live awareness activities held at the FRSC office in Ojota and the Ojota Motor Park in Lagos, where both private and commercial drivers received guidance on safe driving practices and traffic regulation compliance.
Recognizing Compliant Drivers
As part of this behavioral reinforcement strategy, drivers who demonstrated compliance with safety standards—such as wearing seat belts, possessing valid vehicle documentation, and carrying the requisite safety equipment—were acknowledged and rewarded. This initiative not only incentivizes responsible behavior but also promotes a culture of safety among drivers.
Addressing Nigeria’s Road Safety Challenges
Olufunmilayo Amanwa, Executive Director of Technical and Operations at Leadway Assurance, highlighted the campaign’s importance, stating that the “Arrive Alive” initiative reflects their commitment to preserving lives beyond insurance coverage. According to data from the FRSC, Nigeria experienced 10,446 road crashes in 2025, marking a 9.2 percent increase from the previous year, leading to 5,289 fatalities. Such statistics emphasize the pressing need for ongoing road safety education and behavioral changes among motorists.
Commitment to Lifesaving Collaboration
Mr. Kehinde Hamzat echoed this sentiment, expressing that the collaboration with Leadway Assurance directly supports efforts to enhance adherence to road safety regulations across Nigeria. He reiterated that a majority of road accidents are preventable when drivers exercise responsible judgment. This partnership symbolizes a growing collaboration between private entities and regulatory bodies to tackle road safety issues in Nigeria effectively.
This initiative highlights a shared responsibility to promote road discipline, elevate public awareness about safe driving habits, and encourage continuous compliance with traffic laws—efforts that are crucial in reducing preventable road traffic incidents and fostering responsible driving behavior across the nation.
