Manchester City Shifts Focus to Elliott Anderson Over Enzo Fernandes
Manchester City has decided to divert its attention from Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandes, instead prioritizing a summer transfer for Elliott Anderson from Nottingham Forest. The Blues have placed a staggering £100 million price tag on the midfielder, which officials at City are not willing to meet.
While there were initial reports suggesting interest in Fernandes, Sky Sports News has clarified that City is fully committed to pursuing Anderson, whom they see as a pivotal addition to their squad.
Last month, Sky Sports News reported that City is positioned favorably in the race to sign Anderson, bolstering expectations that he may soon join the ranks at the Etihad.
Although Fernandes is valued at over £100 million, Chelsea has no intention of parting ways with him. The Argentine midfielder is contracted with the club until 2032, making him a top asset in Chelsea’s lineup.
Fernandes faced scrutiny after expressing admiration for life in Madrid, resulting in him being benched for two matches in April. Following this, both he and his agent issued an apology, as they sought to renegotiate his terms with Chelsea.
Real Madrid is reportedly keen to secure a new midfielder this summer, and Fernandes is among their preferred targets. Chelsea acquired him from Benfica in January 2023 for a record €121 million (£104 million).
Negotiations with Enzo Maresca Progress
Meanwhile, Manchester City continues negotiations with Enzo Maresca regarding his potential appointment as the successor to Pep Guardiola. Though reports suggest some agreements have been reached, key aspects of the proposed three-year contract remain under discussion.
Current talks concentrate on Maresca’s appointment timeline, his coaching staff composition, and other essential details. A resolution is expected imminently, likely within the next few days.
On Tuesday, City announced that several of Guardiola’s assistants, including Pep Linders and Kolo Toure, will leave the club, along with other notable staff members.
Maresca’s departure from Chelsea was contentious, which means the club’s lawyers will have a vested interest in how his next move is handled, given that he has three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract and is due compensation.
Last autumn, Maresca informed Chelsea of his work with Guardiola as an assistant during the 2022/23 season and indicated that City had expressed interest in him as Guardiola’s potential successor.
Manchester City Expands Search for New Talent
In addition to focusing on managerial changes, Manchester City is also exploring other player acquisitions, particularly in attacking positions. Sky Sports News recently reported two additional names on City’s transfer shortlist: Yann Diomande, a winger from RB Leipzig, and Bournemouth striker Eli Junior Crupi.
Diomande has emerged as one of the most sought-after talents in the market this summer, drawing attention from clubs such as Liverpool and Bayern Munich.
Crupi, a promising young striker, has made a significant impact since joining Bournemouth, with 10 goals in 28 Premier League appearances.
Despite their ongoing search for new signings, City currently boasts a robust forward lineup featuring Sabinho supporting Jeremy Doku on the left wing, as well as Omar Marmouche backing Erling Haaland as a central striker.
The right-back position is another area under City’s scrutiny, with reports indicating that the club is closely monitoring the development of Zivairo Reid, a promising young talent from Feyenoord.
