Nigeria Democratic Congress Unveils Electoral Commission for Upcoming Primaries
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially announced the full roster of members appointed to the Electoral Commission responsible for overseeing the State House, House of Representatives, Senate, Governorship, and Presidential primaries across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
This crucial announcement was made through a joint statement by the National Chairman, Cleopas Moses Zwoge, and National Secretary, Enequis Ikenna Morgan. The list details the chair, secretary, and other members designated to manage the primary elections, which are set for May 29, 2026.
The appointed members for each zone are as follows:
Southeast Zone Appointments
In Abia State, Mr. Askewe Ikoawaji will serve as Chairman, with Mr. Innocent Nwadavid, Mr. Udeme Esieto, Mr. Nebo Chukwuziekwu, and Mr. CJ Okoli Akarika as Secretary. Anambra State will see Osita Ogbu in the chair, supported by Uchenna Okogbu, Nonso Okpara, Chukwudi Igwe (Secretary), and Hanatu Tanko. In Ebonyi, Peter Oniger will lead as Chairman, alongside Emma Anyanwu, Andrew Godwin, Sylvester O. Nwankwo, and Chris McCool Nwosu (Secretary).
Further appointments include Teddy Obey as Chairman for Enugu State, with Nkye Patrick Obi as Secretary and Jackie Wayas, Obinna Simon, and Maureen Emecheta as members. In Imo State, Babatunde Ali will chair, joined by Obumuneke Inoma, Obinna Anyyibe, Judith Uche, and Sigbo Enwezor (Secretary).
South-South Zone Leadership
Akwa Ibom State has named Clement Ajanji as Chairman, with Able Ebifemowei (Secretary), Uduakobong Okon, Pabala Igwere, and Obinna John Kennedy. In Bayelsa State, Mr. Biokpo Awala will serve as Chairman and Mr. Morakinyo Balogun as Secretary, supported by Ms. Grace Analaba and Mr. Ingo Iwawari.
Cross Rivers State’s committee includes Ilya Kwajafa (Chairman), Ernest Eki, Margarita Oguoba, Nicholas Ayuwa, and Austin Mbagwu (Secretary). In Delta State, Kebir Umoru is the Chairman, with Tesufa Dumbo (Secretary) and members Richman Ndakwe, Kenneke P. Moses, and Genevieve Emeremzini. Edo Nation has Fredrick Owotrufa as Chairman and Stanley Borrow as Secretary, supported by Celestine Ayele, Mary Ainogena Egie, and Jackson Agbar (Dr.). Meanwhile, Rivers State has Osusu Osusu as Chairman and Anthony Okoye as Secretary, with Peri Adotu, Eva Numa Alikor, and Abduljalal Idris rounding out the team.
Southwest Zone Structure
For the Southwest, Ekiti State will have Akinlade Olagoke as Chairman and Farade Fuad Tayo as Secretary, along with Babalola Ibrahim, Fayose Adeniran, and Aduroju Jok. In Lagos State, Sidi Abdul Bomi will lead, with Alison Oghenekaro Okoro (Secretary) and members Sandra Ogo, Adewale Adebayo, Christopher Ighodalo, John Uguru, and Cleopas Ebi David. Ogun State appoints Oje Jimi as Chairman, with Widi Alapoti (Secretary), alongside Rose Igwe, Philip Abegunde, and Morufe Olajide.
Ondo State will benefit from Babatunde Daodu as Chairman and Emmanuel Alli as Secretary, with JT Eperetun and Udeze Chigozie also appointed. In Osun State, Mr. Oladejo Yinka will chair, supported by Mr. Popoola Ganiu (Secretary) and Mr. Ajay Esther. Oyo State’s leadership includes Adeolu Adewuyi as Chairman and Kayode Joseph as Secretary, along with Feyikemi Adesiyan.
Central and Northeastern Appointments
In the Kitanaka zone, Benue State’s team includes Jenkins Gwede (Chairman), Gabriel Akor, and Sesgu Nyam (Secretary), while Kogi State is represented by Ezebuike Peter (Chairman), Samari Muhamed Zakari, and Samuel Abu (Secretary). Kwara State appoints Michael Bamidele Sijuade as Chairman, accompanied by Idowu Yisrael Regbo and Hamzat Bora Idayat.
Nasarawa State will see Okey Ejira as Chairman, with Tony S. Jude, Yamsa Ladi Lizzy, Villa Opuama, and Idiemjo Gift Omegala (Secretary). In Niger State, Richard Adams will serve as Chairman along with Kabir Aldo Muas (Secretary), Abdulmuminin Ohiare Abdulsalam, Blessing Akan, and Danladi Abdulhamid. Plateau State’s committee includes Pabala Igwere (Chairman), Abdulkadir Fema (Secretary), Steve Dacomo, Davish Caleb, and Mary Dalyop Zang.
In the FCT, Barnabas J. Ejisi has been designated Chairman, with Ajayi Ilesanmi (Secretary) and members Zakari Attah, Victoria Nkechi Odogwu, and Praya Miri.
Northeast and Northwest Updates
The Northeast zone features Gombe State’s Nura Abdulrazaq as Chairman, with Adamu Idi Magaji (Secretary) and members Aliyu Hamidu, Bar. Dinge Elron, and Sylvia Mayo. Taraba State will be led by Umar Hassan (Chairman) and Hassan Hamidu (Secretary), with Abubakar Garba and Gayus Musa as members. Yobe State’s committee consists of Mohammed Sawa (Chairman), Joshua Tsu (Secretary), Abubakar Garba, and Usman Isa Dogara.
Adamawa State’s leadership includes Williams Lappi (Chairman), Yominbe Comfort Jonathan, Sunday Unal, and Umar Aldo (Secretary). Bauchi State has Ande Karma as Chairman, supported by Rose Silvanu Iratisi Nuhu and Joel John (Secretary). Finally, in Borno State, Mustafa Ali will serve as Chairman, alongside Musa Usman Daya (Secretary) and member Zainab Yunus.
In the Northwest zone, Jigawa Province will feature Tashiu Safiyanu Liman (Chairman), Ibrahim Abubakar (Secretary), and Hajiya Yar Gumel. Kaduna State will see Balarabe Ayuba as Chairman, with Alex Ankuma (Secretary) and Barnabas John. In Kano State, Mr. Mainasara Sani Abubakar will chair, supported by Mr. Reuben Egwaba (Secretary) and members Mr. Ahmed Alhassan, Mr. Salisu Tanko Kwankwaso, and Mr. Saidu Alhassan Maiduguri.
Katsina State will appoint Suleiman Aliyu Baba as Chairman, with Ahmad Alhassan (Secretary) and Ahmad Ma’aluf, Abubakar Abdullahi Rimi as members. Kebbi State features Saidu Jalo Bakuwai as Chairman, Fauziyya Muhammed Marafa (Secretary), and Mohammed Anas Abubakar. In Sokoto State, the committee will be led by Bello Labalan Gwadabawa (Chairman), with Sadhu Bello (Secretary) along with Barkis Abubakar and Attahiru Fodio.
Lastly, Zamfara State has Bashar Muhamed Marafa as Chairman, with Sani Nasarawa (Secretary) and members Qassim Al Mustafa, Nasir Bello Alkali, and Tijani Jibril. The NDC leadership has reiterated its commitment to ensuring a transparent, peaceful, and credible primary election and urged all candidates, delegates, and party members to fully cooperate with the committee throughout the electoral process.
