Support Grows for President Tinubu’s Re-election Campaign
President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid gained significant momentum on Thursday as key political figures from the North East geopolitical zone expressed their commitment to rally grassroots support for both him and the All Progressives Congress (APC). Prominent leaders, including governors, ministers, and traditional rulers from six northeastern states, convened at the Abuja State House to endorse the Tinubu-Shettima ticket and reaffirm their dedication to securing victory in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Governor Professor Babagana Zulum of Borno State led the delegation, which also included former Secretary to the Federal Government Ambassador Babagana Kingibe. The group commended the Tinubu administration’s ongoing infrastructure projects, security initiatives, and economic reforms, highlighting their positive impact on a region long plagued by insurgency and underdevelopment.
During the meeting, Governor Zulum articulated the reasons for their visit, emphasizing gratitude for the renomination of Senator Kassim Shettima as vice-presidential candidate. He praised the decision as a testament to the President’s confidence in Shettima and underscored the vice president’s competence and unwavering loyalty to the Northeast.
Shettima’s record as a trusted deputy was lauded, with Zulum noting that his continuation in the role signifies not only political stability but also strategic leadership. He pointed out that, while the APC’s zoning arrangement allowed the President to choose a running mate from any northern geopolitical zone, retaining Shettima further solidified the Northeast’s trust in the administration.
In a show of unity, Zulum acknowledged the backing from leaders in the North West and North Central regions, suggesting that this collaboration speaks volumes about the ruling party’s cohesion. He also highlighted the federal government’s significant investments in the region, referencing the Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe-Biu-Maiduguri Expressway and various initiatives aimed at enhancing agriculture, education, and the rehabilitation of internally displaced persons.
Reiterating the region’s resolve to support Tinubu’s re-election effort, Zulum assured the President of their unwavering commitment. He stated, “We will continue to support your policies and mobilize our people at the grassroots to embrace a new hope agenda, ensuring that the North East delivers a strong electoral performance for both the President and all APC candidates in 2027.”
Kingibe added that the delegation represents influential leaders whose impact extends beyond politics, reinforcing public trust in the government. He affirmed their collective commitment to advancing Nigeria’s progress under Tinubu’s leadership, emphasizing that even those who are no longer actively involved in politics remain dedicated to communicating government policies that foster public support.
Responding to the endorsement, President Tinubu expressed gratitude for the emotional support, recognizing it as a reflection of the entrenched partnership between his administration and the North-East. He reaffirmed his focus on stabilizing the economy and enhancing political systems, while stressing the necessity of sustained collaboration between federal and state governments to effectively combat terrorism and banditry.
President Tinubu declared that Nigeria is entering a new phase of economic recovery and that the ongoing reforms will increasingly benefit citizens. He asserted that through unity and collaboration, the nation can navigate its challenges. The President concluded by affirming his optimism for Nigeria’s future, emphasizing that the pursuit of stability and welfare for its citizens remains paramount.
