National Youth Service Corps and Kudimata Nigu Launch Capital Market Literacy Program
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), in partnership with Kudimata Nigu, officially inaugurated the NYSC Capital Market Literacy Program on June 16. This initiative kicked off awareness campaigns at NYSC Orientation Camps nationwide, with a symbolic launch held during the Nigeria Exchange (NGX) Closing Gong Ceremony in Lagos.
Designed to enhance investor education, capital market awareness, and economic empowerment among young Nigerians, this national program aims to equip NYSC members with essential financial knowledge. By doing so, it encourages informed financial decisions and active participation in the Nigerian economy.
The symbolic launch at NGX paid tribute to Brigadier General Olakunle Olusei Nafiu, Director-General of NYSC, and brought together prominent figures from the capital market, NYSC management, private sector leaders, and stakeholders. Together, they expressed a unified commitment to improving financial literacy and fostering economic empowerment among Nigeria’s youth.
Dr. Umaru Kwairanga, Chairman of the Nigerian Group of Exchanges, graciously hosted the event. He emphasized the critical role of investor education and financial empowerment in promoting a robust and inclusive economy. His remarks highlighted how the nationwide rollout of the program serves as an invaluable opportunity to equip the youth with the knowledge necessary for making sound investment decisions and contributing to economic growth.
During the ceremony, the NYSC Secretary-General commended the initiative and reaffirmed the corps’ dedication to programs that empower young individuals to lead productive lives after their national service. He underscored the need to expose young Nigerians to legitimate wealth creation opportunities and to foster a culture of economic responsibility.
Kudimata Nig Ltd, which conceived and will implement the initiative in collaboration with NYSC, aims to boost investor education and financial inclusion among the youth. Kathleen Erhimu, the founder of Kudimata Nig Ltd, remarked on the significance of the event, declaring it as a launching point for a sustained commitment to providing young Nigerians with the confidence and knowledge necessary for meaningful engagement in the capital markets.
Participants at the orientation camps received introductory training in investing, wealth creation, and capital market participation. Selected members joined the NYSC Director-General and senior officials at the NGX Closing Gong Ceremony, marking the official commencement of the program while reinforcing the connection between youth development and Nigeria’s capital market ecosystem. The event also allowed corps members to gain first-hand experience with leading capital market institutions.
Looking ahead, the NYSC Capital Market Literacy Program aims to expand its initiatives across all NYSC organizations and orientation camps throughout Nigeria. This effort seeks to cultivate a generation of financially literate young Nigerians who can make informed decisions and contribute to national prosperity. Moreover, this collaboration underscores the vital role of partnerships between public and private sectors in fostering youth development and sustainable economic growth.
