Youths as Key Players in Security and Development
The governor highlighted that engaging youths is crucial in tackling the challenges of insecurity and crime. He believes that if adequately involved, young people can harness their energy and talents to drive positive change within Kogi State. This collaborative approach is seen as pivotal in enhancing the state’s security framework.
Inclusive Governance and Youth-Centric Policies
Ododo explained that his administration adopts an inclusive governance model that places youth at the forefront of policy formulation and implementation. This marks a significant shift from past practices where the potential of young citizens was often overlooked. The governor expressed optimism that the upcoming Youth Security Summit will allow the youth to partner with government and security agencies in developing effective community safety strategies.
Commitment to the Ododo Youth House Project
The governor also reinforced his support for the proposed Ododo Youth House project, assuring that it will not face the same fate as previously uncompleted government initiatives. The facility, which will be developed through a public-private partnership (PPP), aims to become a sustainable hub for innovation, leadership, and skills development.
Features of the Youth House and Ongoing Support Initiatives
Set to include a 1,000-seat multipurpose hall, modern office spaces, a well-equipped library, and recreational facilities, the Youth House is designed to promote entrepreneurship and active youth participation. Additionally, Governor Ododo has initiated an increase in the monthly subsidy allocated to the Kogi State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), recognizing the need for improved support for youth organizations.
Strengthening Relationships with Youth Groups
Emphasizing the importance of open communication, the governor committed to regular engagements with youth groups, aiming to forge stronger partnerships. Meanwhile, Monday Aniebe, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, lauded the administration’s efforts, noting that increased representation of youths in the cabinet reflects a genuine faith in their capabilities.
Calls for Enhanced Support and Strategic Appointments
During the meeting, Abdulrahman Abdulmumin Enesi, Chairman of the Kogi State chapter of the NYCN, praised the governor’s dedication to youth issues. He urged for the appointment of more qualified young individuals to influential governmental positions and advocated for raising the monthly council subsidy to N5 million to better address the needs of the youth population.
The commitment to the Youth Security Summit and other youth-focused initiatives indicates the Ododo administration’s strategic vision to position young people as fundamental stakeholders in fostering peace, security, and overall development within Kogi State.
