Ogun APC Gubernatorial Candidate Launches Power Restoration Initiative
James Sowore of Abeokuta
Solomon Adeola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate for Ogun State’s 2027 election and current senator representing Ogun West, has initiated a significant re-electrification project aimed at over 50 communities in the Ogun Waterside Local Government Area and other areas within Ogun East Senatorial District.
Community Engagement and Project Goals
During a recent meeting at City Hall, Mr. Adeola, affectionately known as Yai, introduced this initiative to local residents, including traditional and religious leaders, community representatives, youth advocates, and other stakeholders. The project seeks to address a critical need for electricity in regions where thousands have faced power deprivation for more than ten years.
Targeted Communities Receive Promise of Power
The re-electrification efforts will focus on communities such as Onikintimbo, Gbegude, Olorunsogo, Malofe, and Ibiade, among others. Many of these areas have been marred by prolonged outages due to significant damage to electrical infrastructure, severely impacting local socio-economic activities.
Restoring Hope Through Infrastructure
At the event, Mr. Adeola, accompanied by his deputy governorship candidate, Mrs. Abiodun Adegunwa Balogun, emphasized the project’s aim to rejuvenate hope among residents. He stated that years of power outages have taken a toll on local livelihoods and that this initiative represents a vital step toward sustainable development in the region.
Community Responsibility and Project Protection
Highlighting the project’s significance, Adeola urged the community to partake in its success by protecting the electrical infrastructure from vandalism. He noted, “This project represents our commitment to improving people’s lives. Power is the foundation of economic growth, education, health care, and safety. We cannot stand by and watch our communities remain in the dark for years.”
Timelines and Funding for Re-electrification
He announced that contractors have already been mobilized to commence work, with the project slated for completion by December 2026. This initiative follows Adeola’s recent pledge to restore electricity after consulting with Ogun Waterside residents about the crippling effects of ongoing power outages.
Future Market Development to Boost Economy
In addition to the re-electrification project, Mr. Adeola revealed plans for the construction of a large solar-powered market in Ogun Waterside. This market will not only provide traders with night-time operational opportunities but also enhance economic activity within the communities. Construction work on the market is set to begin within two weeks.
