Return of Ogun State Pilgrims Marks Hajj Milestone
The first group of 345 pilgrims from Ogun State has returned to Nigeria after completing their spiritual journey in Saudi Arabia for the 2026 Hajj. The group, comprising 151 men and 194 women, arrived at Gateway International Airport in Ilisan Iperu Remo aboard a Flynas A330 aircraft, touching down at 8:41 p.m. on Thursday.
This return signifies a major achievement for the airport, which successfully facilitated direct international flights for pilgrims coming back from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia following this year’s Hajj pilgrimage.
Government officials, including Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, Secretary to the State Government, and Mr. Olalenwaju Isker Saka, Director of Services, were on hand to welcome the returning pilgrims. Their presence underscored the importance of this event for the Ogun State community.
During a reception held at the airport, Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun highlighted the accomplishment of Operation Hajj 2026. He expressed his joy and gratitude to God for the successful completion of the pilgrimage, stating, “Many believed this day would be impossible, but I am thankful this has become a reality.”
Governor Abiodun praised the pilgrims for their exemplary behavior during their stay at the holy sites, describing them as excellent representatives of Ogun State. He reassured them that the state government will enhance its support for pilgrims and improve the management of Hajj operations in the future.
The governor encouraged the returning pilgrims to embody the spiritual values they learned during their journey by demonstrating humility, respect for the law, and good conduct in their daily lives. He stated, “I hope they reflect the transformation that comes from the experience of visiting the Holy Land.”
Following his arrival, Sheikh Iskir Lawal Sugar, Advisor to the Governor on Islamic Affairs and leader of the pilgrims, conveyed his appreciation to Governor Abiodun for prioritizing the welfare of the pilgrims. He noted, “The governor checked on us frequently during our stay in Mecca, demonstrating his commitment to our needs.”
Returning pilgrims, including Alhaji Ayomide Adetunji and Alhaja Tawa Balogun, expressed gratitude for their safe return and the successful execution of the pilgrimage, praising the governor for his support throughout. They highlighted the added significance of arriving directly at the Gateway International Airport, calling the experience both convenient and historic.
