Dr. Chioma Awuzie, Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Oko, has been nominated for the prestigious 2025 Anambra Civil Service Officer of the Year award by the organizers of the Anambra Man of the Year (AMTY) Awards.

In a recommendation letter dated March 9, 2026, the AMTY Awards Planning Committee commended Awuzie for her significant impact in the relatively brief period since assuming her role. Dr. Awuzie’s Academic and Professional Background
Dr. Awuzie is not only a distinguished academic but also a seasoned administrator with two decades of experience in teaching and research. She holds a PhD from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, as well as a Master’s in Industrial Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry/Biochemistry from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
Significant Contributions to Science and Education
A fellow of several esteemed organizations, including the Chemical Society of Nigeria and the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Chemists, Awuzie has made substantial contributions to scientific research. Her portfolio boasts over 28 journal articles, 34 conference papers, and 11 books, underscoring her commitment to advancing knowledge in her field. Her academic prowess has garnered international recognition, notably receiving the Best Paper Presenter Award at the 2015 International Conference on Science, Technology and Management held in Oxford, England.
Impactful Leadership at the Federal University of Technology
Prior to her appointment as Chancellor, Awuzie served as Chief Lecturer in the Institute’s Department of Scientific Experimental Technology and held various leadership roles, including Director of the TETFund Project and Coordinator of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Since taking office, she has spearheaded numerous infrastructural and institutional reforms, including the relaunch of essential facilities like a water factory, bread factory, and campus radio, alongside new construction projects like a medical center and academic buildings on the Ufma campus.

Under her stewardship, initiatives such as the establishment of a skills development center and enhancements in campus security have been rolled out. Additionally, Awuzie has focused on expanding and reaccrediting academic programs, decreasing tuition fees, and implementing a student work-study system.
