Alumni Group Advocates for Increased Engagement to Support Ofagbe University
Members of the Ofagbe University of Technology Old Students Association (OTCOSA) in the Lagos Zone are urging alumni to become more actively involved as the organization seeks to enhance support for its members and contribute significantly to the development of their alma mater. This rallying call was made during OTCOSA’s 2026 annual reunion and celebration held in Lagos.
During the event, Mr. Akpoyibo Isaac spotlighted the organization’s achievements, ongoing challenges, and future aspirations. In his welcome address, he traced the association’s origins back to 2018, when Mr. Abanaba Joshua, then a student, formulated the idea after reconnecting with fellow alumnus Mr. Evelino Joseph during a visit to Ikorodu.
Mr. Akpoyibo explained that their conversation led to consultations with other alumni, including Joseph Etemile and Samuel Iteze, culminating in the creation of a WhatsApp group aimed at uniting former students of the institution. “A general meeting, convened under the guidance of Mr. Ifoji Vincent, witnessed a significant turnout, establishing the foundations of the association,” he noted.
He went on to elaborate that Mr. Ifoji Vincent was elected as the interim president and subsequently became the substantive president. This initiative has since expanded beyond Lagos, bringing together alumni from various regions in Nigeria and abroad. “At present, our association has established four zones: Lagos, Delta, Rivers, and Abuja, with a growing number of members residing outside the country,” stated Akpoyibo.
The Chairman revealed that the association, officially registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission through its National Executive, has launched several projects to support Ofagbe University of Technology. Additional initiatives are anticipated in the coming months. Situated in Ofagbe Community, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, Ofagbe Technical College continues to play a vital role in the local education landscape.
Highlighting the advantages of membership, Mr. Akpoyibo emphasized that the platform offers valuable opportunities for networking, business collaborations, and reuniting with old classmates. He affirmed that the association aids members with both financial and emotional support when necessary. “Being part of this community means reconnecting with friends, gaining essential support for business endeavors, and having assistance during social events,” he conveyed.
Despite its progress, Akpoyibo noted that low attendance at meetings remains a significant challenge, affecting the Lagos Zone and other chapters. “Our principal setback is the limited participation from members at meetings, though this issue is not exclusive to Lagos,” he remarked. Nevertheless, he expressed hope that by reducing in-person meetings to twice a year and promoting online gatherings, member engagement would improve. “We strongly encourage all alumni to participate in meetings—whether in person or online—as they are easily accessible,” he added.
Founded in 1966, Ofagbe University of Technology continues to produce graduates across various disciplines, and the Alumni Association is increasingly becoming a crucial platform for mutual support, networking, and institutional development. The event concluded with messages of goodwill and a renewed call for solidarity among association members.
