PDP Candidate Urges Handover Preparation Ahead of Gubernatorial Election
Dr. Wole Oluyede, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in Ekiti State, has called on Governor Biodun Oyebunji to prepare the handover documents in anticipation of the June 20 gubernatorial election. Oluyede is confident that the electorate is ready to embrace a new government.
Development Agenda Unveiled at Grand Finale Rally
This declaration was made during the party’s grand finale mass rally held in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday, where Oluyede introduced a 100-day development plan that prioritizes road repairs, health reforms, commercial agriculture, wealth creation, and grassroots development.
Party Leaders Join Rally to Support Oluyede
The event drew PDP leaders and supporters from across the state, including Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan, who championed the party’s last election campaign. She endorsed Oluyede, calling him the most qualified candidate in the upcoming race.
Call for Change in Leadership
Addressing party members, Oluyede emphasized the need for a change in leadership, urging residents to exercise their voting rights to shape the future of Ekiti. He stated that Governor Oyebunji should start preparing for a transition, asserting that the populace is eager for change.
Infrastructure and Local Government Autonomy as Priorities
Oluyede committed to repairing and repaving roads throughout the state’s 16 local government areas within his first 100 days in office. He criticized the current state of the roads, emphasizing the need for local government chairmen dedicated to implementing development initiatives. He highlighted the importance of local government autonomy in fostering grassroots progress and enhancing service delivery in communities.
Focus on Wealth Creation and Economic Independence
Oluyede identified wealth creation as a critical challenge for Ekiti, arguing that previous administrations have largely concentrated on public sector employment rather than cultivating a productive economy. He lamented the lack of wealth generation over the past three decades, stressing the need for support in commercial agriculture to boost household incomes, stimulate local economies, and increase government revenue.
Commitment to Health Sector Reform and Security Issues
The PDP candidate also acknowledged the dire state of public health facilities, which he described as poorly equipped and underfunded. He pledged to initiate comprehensive reforms in the health sector. Furthermore, he expressed concerns about security issues in Ekiti, particularly the inadequate response to the abduction of Eda Oniyo residents, attributing the lack of attention to Governor Oyebunji’s administration.
Broader Call for Accountability and Leadership
Hon. Deji Ogunsakin, the PDP deputy governorship candidate, also criticized the APC-led administration for its failure to address insecurity and economic hardship. He noted widespread disenchantment among residents revealed during campaign tours. Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan reiterated her support for Oluyede, asserting his qualifications and ability to address health, education, and agricultural challenges, while encouraging voters to prioritize candidates who can secure a better future for Ekiti. The rally culminated in a passionate display of confidence in the PDP’s prospects for success in the forthcoming election.
