Onigbombo Local Council Partners with Brampton for Innovation and Growth
Moyosole Adebanjo, Chairman of the Onigbombo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State, has initiated a strategic partnership with the City of Brampton, Ontario, Canada. This collaboration aims to enhance innovation, promote youth development, ensure environmental sustainability, and stimulate economic growth within the region.
This partnership was forged following an official visit by a delegation from Onigbombo to Brampton, extended by Mayor Patrick Brown. The delegation comprised influential members including Francis Nkwo Banwuzia, Chairman of the Legislative Council, and Council Manager Abiodun Osineye.
A statement from the council indicated that this visit was pivotal in establishing institutional relationships between the two municipalities. It has paved the way for cooperation in governance, community development, and innovation initiatives.
A significant outcome of this partnership is Brampton’s commitment to collaborate with Onigbombo LCDA on innovative recycling projects and knowledge-sharing programs aimed at enhancing waste management practices in both regions.
Additionally, the delegation engaged with officials from BHive Brampton, the city’s business innovation and startup incubation hub. They discussed various opportunities for Onigbombo’s young innovators and entrepreneurs to benefit from mentorship programs, incubation initiatives, and technology exchange collaborations.
During these discussions, BHive Program Manager Yoganand Gopalakrishnan and Innovation and Technology and Economic Development Coordinator Uche Okgo expressed enthusiasm for partnering with the council to broaden access to the innovation ecosystem for local youth.
In further meetings, Shafqat Ali, a representative of the Canadian government, voiced support for local development initiatives and highlighted the potential for strengthening ties with Nigeria through future collaborations.
Exploratory discussions also addressed the possibility of Onigbombo LCDA participating in Canada-backed programs ranging from artificial intelligence training to health intervention partnerships and environmental sustainability initiatives.
Moreover, the delegation conferred with Erica Henry Jackman, Brampton’s Director of Investment Attraction and International Relations. They focused on investment opportunities and economic development prospects, particularly regarding the potential of Cane Village in Onigbombo.
This visit has also opened avenues for legislative cooperation, as the legislative branch in Brampton expressed its willingness to host members of the Onigbombo Legislative Council under an exchange program, fostering the sharing of best practices in legislation and local governance.
Reflecting on the outcomes of the visit, Mr. Adebanjo characterized the initiative as a significant step toward attracting resources and opportunities that would ultimately benefit the residents of the council area. He emphasized that these partnerships align with the council’s vision of fostering innovative, sustainable, and prosperous communities.
