Produced by Schez Concept and Entertainment Limited, Choir Chronicles stands out for its compelling storytelling combined with live musical performances—a distinct departure from typical offerings in the Nigerian film industry. This series promises to offer viewers a rich narrative experience that is both engaging and thought-provoking.
At the core of Choir Chronicles lies a deep emotional investigation into life within a choir. It sheds light on the untold stories behind the scenes, portraying the rivalries, sacrifices, friendships, heartbreaks, and humor that define the lives of its members beyond their performances.
Renowned journalist and creative storyteller, Ajulchukwu Brown, serves as the series’ writer. Choir Chronicles boasts an impressive cast of Abuja-based opera and stage talents, including Godson J. Ogulie, Ifeoma Nduka, and Jason Somuto. Additional performers such as Eyeball Victoria, Gina Anthony E, and Matt S. Abah enrich the production, marking it as one of the most ambitious music-driven endeavors to emerge from Nigeria’s capital.
More than just a source of entertainment, Choir Chronicles aims to raise social awareness. One episode is dedicated exclusively to advocacy, reflecting the creators’ intent to utilize entertainment as a medium for self-reflection and social dialogue.
Sam Ezugwu, the creator and executive producer, draws from over two decades of experience as a choir director in crafting this project. He emphasizes that audiences typically witness only the polished end of stage performances, unaware of the emotional reality that occurs behind the curtain.
Ezugwu remarked on the myriad untold stories—after-hours rehearsals, personal conflicts, quiet sacrifices, and moments of camaraderie—that shape the choir experience. He aims for Choir Chronicles to recognize talented musicians and opera singers who often go unacknowledged in mainstream media.
Describing the series as a tribute to choral culture, Ezugwu celebrates the essence of collaboration in creating beauty amid imperfections. Gabriel Jaa, the director and cinematographer, notes that the series represents a refreshing shift in Nollywood’s storytelling approach.
