APC Electoral Council Predicts Defeat for Osun Governor Adeleke
Oluwole Oke, the Executive Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Electoral Council for the upcoming Osun State governorship election on August 15, has expressed confidence that the current governor, Ademola Adeleke, will be defeated in the polls.
APC Strategy Targets Adeleke Administration’s Shortcomings
During the inauguration of the APC Electoral Committee in Osogbo on Wednesday, Oke stated that Adeleke would likely face defeat before 10 PM on election day. He emphasized the party’s intent to capitalize on the rifts created by what he described as the current administration’s failure to responsibly manage the state’s resources, an issue he believes will bolster the candidacy of Bola Oyebamiji.
Citing Administrative Failures as Reasons for Defeat
Oke criticized the Adeleke administration, claiming it has failed to deliver essential services to the people of Osun State. He highlighted significant issues, stating, “The government has exhibited incompetence across its administration, leaving the state’s resources mismanaged and squandered.” He pointed to deteriorating public schools and a lack of qualified teachers, stating that children in Osun are increasingly forced out of public education.
Concerns Over Public Health and Agriculture
According to Oke, the decline extends beyond education. He lamented the absence of well-equipped hospitals for residents and the failures within the agricultural sector. He remarked, “Merely paying public servants does not constitute effective governance; it is a basic obligation.” He underlined that comprehensive accomplishments in governance require more than just meeting payrolls.
APC’s Commitment to Addressing State Welfare
Despite the criticism of Adeleke’s track record, Oke expressed optimism about the APC’s prospects in the election. He asserted that the party would tackle the issues identified during the current administration and ensure that an Oyebamiji-led government focuses on improving the welfare of Osun residents while addressing poverty.
APC’s Confidence in Election Victory
Oke confidently stated, “I have no doubt we will win this election. As I’ve said before, we excel at displacing sitting governors. By 10 PM on August 15, 2026, we will have removed Adeleke, and our candidate, Awaju Munirdeen Bola Oyebamiji, will emerge victorious.”
Governor’s Office Dismisses Oke’s Assertions
Responding to Oke’s comments, Mr. Oladele Bamiji, the Deputy Press Secretary to Governor Adeleke, rejected the claims, asserting that the governor’s administration would secure re-election. He countered that public schools and hospitals under Adeleke’s leadership are functioning effectively, meeting the needs of the citizens. “We will see the outcome much earlier than 10 PM; by noon, the people of Osun will reaffirm their support for Governor Adeleke,” Bamiji stated.
Upcoming Elections and Key Candidates
According to Punch Online, voters in Osun will cast their ballots on August 15 to elect a new governor. Incumbent Adeleke is seeking re-election under the Accord Party, while Oyebamiji is representing the All Progressives Congress. Additionally, Naseem Salam, the former state House of Representatives speaker, is a major candidate running with the African Democratic Congress.
