Imo Indigenes of Abia Support Governor Otti Ahead of 2027
Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has assured workers dismissed from public service during the previous administration that they will receive their outstanding entitlements in full, following verification. He made this announcement during a civic reception hosted for him by the Imo State indigenes in Abia at the Ogbonnaya Onu University of Technology, Aba.
In his address, Governor Otti expressed that his administration is considering requests to reinstate workers who were laid off between 2011 and 2012. However, he noted that many of these former employees are now of an age that may prevent them from returning to active duty. He directed that their outstanding entitlements be calculated and paid once verification is complete.
He stated, “I have listened to appeals regarding those laid off as far back as 2011-2012. It was a directive I provided when I was received by the Anambra people, and it applies to everyone.” Otti emphasized that irrespective of the challenges these workers may face, they will be fully compensated for their service.
While acknowledging the diligence of the indigenous Imo community in organizing the reception, the governor expressed gratitude, calling the event an expression of support and encouragement for his administration. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that all residents of Abia State have equal employment opportunities based on merit, rather than place of origin.
“In Abia State, we do not differentiate based on home state. When we hire in sectors such as health and education, what matters is your skill set and abilities,” he remarked. Otti stressed that the unity between Abia and Imo transcends political divisions, emphasizing that Imo residents in Abia enjoy the same rights and privileges as Abia indigenes.
Highlighting the long-standing ties between the two states, he insisted that those Imo families who have lived in Abia for generations should not be regarded as outsiders. “If you reside in Abia, you are considered a part of us, sharing in all the benefits available to Abia citizens,” he affirmed.
Governor Otti also reflected on the progress made by his administration in the past three years, asserting that these accomplishments serve as a foundation for even greater achievements moving forward. He reaffirmed his dedication to fostering harmony and inclusiveness among various ethnic groups within the state.
Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State praised Otti’s achievements, noting the impressive attendance at the reception as a clear indication of public confidence in his administration. He urged Otti to continue with people-centered policies and assured ongoing support for the indigenous Imo residents in Abia.
Various leaders, including Eze EC Okeke of the South East Traditional Rulers Council, lauded Otti’s performance, deeming him one of Nigeria’s top governors. They praised the transformative efforts in Abia, highlighting developments that have made the state an attractive destination for investors and tourists alike.
Goodwill messages from other dignitaries further reinforced the support for Governor Otti and acknowledged his significant contributions to the state’s economic revitalization in education, health care, and infrastructure.
