Oyo State Police Recover Hijacked Tanker in Ile-Igbon
The Oyo State Police Command successfully recovered a hijacked DAF tanker truck that had been abandoned in the Ile-Igbon area. This operation was part of a broader initiative led by intelligence agencies targeting suspected vehicle hijackers operating across state lines.
In an official statement released on Friday, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ayanlade Olinka highlighted this recovery as a significant achievement in their ongoing efforts to combat crime and safeguard lives and property throughout the state.
Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives located the abandoned vehicle, which had been left unattended for several days. The investigation revealed that the suspects had fled the scene after realizing they were under surveillance.
Authorities indicated that the criminals relinquished control of the truck as police pressure intensified. According to the statement, “The increased scrutiny from law enforcement made it challenging for the suspects to maintain possession of the vehicle, prompting their hasty departure.”
Upon recovery, the tanker was secured and placed in police custody while further investigations were underway. Subsequent inquiries confirmed that armed criminals had forcibly taken the vehicle along the Ijebu-Ode corridor in Ogun State.
The truck driver identified the recovered vehicle, affirming that it had been seized during the reported incident. The owner of the tanker has also corroborated this account, confirming that the matter had been reported to the relevant authorities in Ogun State.
The Oyo State Police Command is working diligently with its counterpart in Ogun State to complete the necessary administrative procedures required for the vehicle’s return to its rightful owner. Additionally, efforts continue to locate and apprehend the fleeing suspects, with the police intensifying their search operations.
Commissioner of Police Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbemiga reiterated the command’s commitment to crime prevention through intelligence-led policing, strategic deployment of resources, and inter-agency collaboration. He also encouraged the community to assist law enforcement by providing timely information that can aid in crime detection and prevention.
