Pan-Atlantic University Hosts Local Government Media Delegation
Pan-Atlantic University (PAU) recently hosted a capacity-building program for media representatives from the Lagos State Local Government Council, urging them to uphold high standards of ethics, accuracy, and transparency in public communications. The university emphasized that reliable information plays a vital role in fostering public trust and promoting effective governance.
During the event, Uchenna Uzo, Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs at PAU, expressed gratitude to the delegates for their participation. He reminded the attendees of their critical role in accurately reporting events across Lagos State and highlighted the significant responsibility local government communicators bear in building public trust and understanding.
Uzo articulated PAU’s commitment to ethical communication, stating, “At Pan-Atlantic University, we prioritize how information is shared and believe it should always be accurate and conveyed with integrity.” He reiterated the university’s strategic vision aimed at 2027, ensuring that every student graduates as a competent and ethical leader.
Frank Wigl, PAU’s Director of University Relations and Development, reinforced the institution’s commitment to leading by example, asserting that a university’s values are reflected through actions rather than words. He also shared insights into PAU’s history, discussing the narratives behind its establishment, architecture, and the significance of its namesakes.
The engagement day was centered on ethical communication and community relations, and involved interactive sessions led by master’s students from the School of Media and Communication. Topics covered included crisis management and effective community engagement, all designed to provide media professionals with practical strategies for responsibly addressing community issues.
The program culminated in a tour of the university museum, providing attendees with a deeper understanding of PAU’s heritage, followed by a group photo to commemorate the enriching experience. This event marked a significant step towards reinforcing the values of truth and ethical communication among those serving in public relations roles.
Pan-Atlantic University, a private, not-for-profit institution based in Lagos, is dedicated to developing ethical professionals who can serve society with integrity and commitment.
