Oyo State Police Apprehend 11 Students Linked to Eiye Fraternity
The Oyo State Police Command has detained 11 students from Ladoke Akintola Polytechnic in Ogbomoso, who are suspected members of the notorious Eiye Fraternity. The authorities recovered firearms, ammunition, and other hazardous weapons during the operation.
Astatement from police spokesperson Olinka Ayanlade, issued in Ibadan on Friday, revealed that the arrests were made following credible information received by the police command.
The arrested individuals include the alleged leader, 24-year-old Adedapo Victor, second-in-command Taiwo Rasheed (22), and other members Emeka Isaac (20), Akande Segun (26), Akande Julius (26), Stephen Opeyemi (24), Fortune Abel (22), Oluwatunmise Ayodeji (22), Adigun Oladimeji (32), Akande Moses (28), and Karim Khalid (20).
A thorough search of the suspects and their hideout led to the discovery of several incriminating items believed to be intended for violent acts. Among the recovered items were four locally manufactured cut-to-size pistols, 11 live rounds, a spent cartridge, two cult axes, a short sword, a dagger knife, and a red cult hooded cap.
According to the intelligence that prompted the operation, members of the Eiye fraternity had gathered in the Under-G, Yuako, and Adenike areas, allegedly planning coordinated attacks within the student community that could have resulted in significant unrest.
Upon arriving at the designated locations, police operatives acted swiftly, successfully thwarting the planned attack and arresting the 11 male suspects. After their apprehension, the suspects reportedly confessed to their affiliation with the Eiye fraternity, and initial investigations suggest they were involved in various cult-related crimes, including murder.
Ayanlade emphasized that all suspects are students at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in Ogbomoso. Police Commissioner Olugbenga Abimbola commended the operatives for their professionalism and swift response, recognizing their vital role in preventing a potentially violent situation within the student population.
The Commissioner assured the public that the police command is dedicated to bringing all individuals involved in the criminal network to justice. Efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend other fugitive members of the syndicate. The police reiterated their commitment to prosecuting all suspects upon completion of the investigation and called on the public for continued support in providing timely information to combat cult activities and violent crimes.
Determined to eradicate cult-related and violent crimes, the Oyo State Police Command is focused on ensuring public safety and maintaining order in the community.
