Empowering Women for Societal Progress in Rivers State
Dr. Lolo Gersham, a prominent stakeholder in Rivers State, has called on women to invest in their self-development to improve their standing in society. Her remarks come at a critical time when women in the region are encouraged to bolster their resilience amidst the ongoing political and economic turmoil in Nigeria.
The Rivers Women Union Forsim (RIWUS) hosted a program in Port Harcourt aimed at motivating women to remain steadfast and not let transient challenges divert their attention from advocating for peace, unity, and progress in their communities.
Addressing attendees on the topic of “Self-Development Skills,” Dr. Gersham highlighted the importance of continuous personal and professional growth. She emphasized that women should advance in their respective fields, whether in business, education, or politics. “Present yourself effectively in your chosen field. Regardless of your current qualifications, whether you’re pursuing your WAEC, seeking a diploma, or furthering your education with a master’s, the key is to keep evolving,” she stated.
Dr. Gersham encouraged attendees to elevate their self-perception, urging them to respond to the question, “What do you bring to the table?” by asserting, “I am the table,” while also acknowledging that self-development is essential to embody that sentiment.
During the event, which functions as a monthly prayer meeting, women gathered to pray for the well-being of Rivers State and the wider nation. “We have united in prayer for the survival of Rivers State. We are the backbone of this community—mothers, wives, sisters—all joined together for the glory of God,” she added, clarifying their focus on spiritual well-being over political affiliations.
Pastor Boma Ivanička remarked on the significance of the gathering, emphasizing that RIWUS operates beyond political dynamics and has been a source of peace within Rivers State. She asserted that, “We pray for national harmony and prosperity; without peace, we cannot achieve national progress.”
Media Director Glory Sunday acknowledged the commendable leadership of Governor Siminalai Hubala, highlighting his commitment to development and community welfare through various initiatives across the state. The organization expressed its strong dedication to intercessory prayer aimed at fostering peace, stability, and growth in Rivers State and Nigeria, aligning with the governance policies in Hubala’s administration.
In a show of solidarity, RIWUS urged women to maintain their hope and faith during challenging times, assuring them that divine intervention could transform difficult circumstances for the better. The organization reiterated its unwavering support for Governor Hubala, praising him as a people-focused leader actively working to enhance the welfare of Rivers residents.
Additionally, the group denounced the kidnapping of schoolchildren in various parts of Nigeria, labeling it a tragic situation. They called for increased efforts from security agencies to ensure the safe return of the abducted children. Adata Biobriggs highlighted the involvement of young people, both men and women, in communal prayers for the nation, emphasizing their commitment to good governance. “We have many young people joining us in prayer, standing in solidarity with initiatives that benefit our state and country,” she noted.
In his sermon, Pastor Priye Orhe commended the women for their perseverance, underscoring that maintaining faith and service to God amidst adversity requires remarkable courage.
