Aridex Announces Name Change and Strategic Expansion
Aridex, formerly known as RusselSmith, has officially registered its name change with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria. This rebranding signifies a pivotal enhancement in the organization’s capabilities and its service offerings across diverse industries, far surpassing its initial focus on oil and gas services established in the early 2000s.
Transforming from Oil and Gas to Multi-Sector Technology Group
Initially founded as an asset protection firm for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, Aridex has evolved into a comprehensive industrial technology group. The company now operates across multiple sectors, including maritime, aerospace, defense, construction, and manufacturing. Its subsidiaries specialize in various domains, such as industrial additive manufacturing, asset security, engineering and construction, autonomous systems development, and advanced technology products.
Pioneering Additive Manufacturing in Nigeria
The organization proudly holds a pioneer status in additive manufacturing, as designated by the Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC). It is also recognized as the first company certified by the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) for its implementation of additive manufacturing within the oil and gas sector. These accolades underscore Aridex’s capabilities and its pivotal role in fostering indigenous industrial capacity at scale.
Commitment to Quality and Safety Standards
With over two decades of consistent service, Aridex has attained ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 certifications. These certifications reinforce its integrated management system, which oversees operations across all departments. The company boasts an impressive record of zero time loss over more than 7 million person-hours of operations, reflecting its commitment to operational excellence.
Upcoming Launch of West Africa’s First Multi-Technology Facility
The name change is timed to coincide with a significant operational milestone. Alidex Omnifactory, West Africa’s inaugural multi-technology industrial additive manufacturing facility, is set to launch in June 2026 in Lagos. This state-of-the-art facility will incorporate various additive manufacturing technologies—including laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF), cold spray, fused filament fabrication (FFF), and selective laser sintering (SLS)—to facilitate on-demand production of industrial components, spare parts, and optimized designs for critical industries. Moreover, Omnifactory will offer large-scale structures, including full-sized marine components, showcasing the substantial progress Aridex has made from its roots.
Building Operational Resilience in Africa’s Industries
Africa’s critical sectors have historically depended on imported components and expertise, leading to complex supply chains that affect asset owners’ operational continuity. With Omnifactory, Aridex aims to produce industrial components and parts on-demand in Lagos, thereby bolstering resilience within key industries across the continent.
Leadership’s Vision for the Future
Kayode Adeleke, Group Chief Executive Officer of Aridex, remarked that the name RusselSmith represented their origins, while Aridex signifies the organization’s growth and expanded vision. He emphasized that Africa’s reliance on fragile supply chains is a long-standing structural issue that needs addressing. The establishment of Omnifactory represents a tangible solution to these challenges and a step toward manufacturing sovereignty.
As a strategic partner of the Commonwealth Enterprise Investment Council (CWEIC), Aridex serves clients throughout Nigeria and the broader African region. The organization also holds a joint venture with the Defense Industries Corporation (DICON) and is an active member of both the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and the Defense Industries Association of Nigeria (DIAN). The introduction of Omnifactory in June 2026 marks a new chapter in Aridex’s operations, reflecting the comprehensive scope of its achievements to date.
