This Wednesday, the Sahara Group urged students at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) to actively participate in shaping Africa’s energy future. The conglomerate emphasized the importance of moving beyond traditional solutions by embracing innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability as essential drivers of development throughout the continent.
This call to action came during the Energy Transition 360° (ET360) program, hosted by the UNILAG Energy Club. The event served as a platform for Sahara Group to introduce its ‘Beyond XXX’ vision and to motivate future leaders to devise solutions that enhance sustainable development, energy accessibility, and equitable prosperity.
The event successfully brought together key figures from various sectors, including industry leaders, academic experts, policymakers, and students. Sahara Group executives underscored the significant role that youth will play in facilitating Africa’s transition to a more sustainable energy landscape.
Ejiro Gray, Director of Governance and Sustainability at Sahara Group, pointed out that the future of Africa’s energy sector largely hinges on the eagerness of young people to innovate and create tailored solutions for the continent’s distinct challenges. “Beyond XXX is based on the principle that each generation has an obligation to broaden opportunities for the next,” she stated. “The future of Africa’s energy will be determined by innovative thinkers and driven leaders, and the continent needs young people to develop solutions that enhance energy access, foster sustainability, and generate shared prosperity.”
Moreover, Emilomo Alorote, Head of Human Resources at Sahara Group, emphasized the importance of cultivating a growth mindset among students. He urged attendees to acquire skills essential for thriving in an increasingly technology-driven landscape. “Success will belong to those who can continuously learn, adapt, and add value,” he expressed. “Beyond academic achievements, young individuals must cultivate resilience, curiosity, and leadership capabilities to effect meaningful change. Africa’s greatest opportunity lies in the ability of its youth to turn challenges into sustainable solutions.”
Alorote further advocated for viewing entrepreneurship and innovation as vital tools for job creation and long-term economic advancement across Africa. “Sahara Group’s involvement in ET360 underscores our longstanding commitment to nurturing future-ready leaders via strategic partnerships with educational institutions,” he remarked. Initiatives such as the Sahara School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship exemplify the organization’s dedication to equipping students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and networks to excel in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
