Employers Shift Focus to Practical Skills Amid AI and Automation
As artificial intelligence, automation, and digital transformation continue to reshape industries worldwide, employers are increasingly prioritizing practical skills over traditional academic qualifications. Skills such as problem-solving, adaptability, collaboration, and leadership are becoming critical in today’s job market.
Student Success Relies on Knowledge Application
For modern college students, their success hinges not only on the knowledge they possess but also on their ability to effectively apply this knowledge in an ever-evolving work environment. The capacity to adapt to change and leverage skills is essential in a landscape where roles are continuously transforming.
MTN Nigeria Launches Live it 100 on Campus Roadshow
This realization is the foundation of MTN Nigeria’s “Live it 100 on Campus” roadshow, which aims to engage students across seven universities in five of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. Kicking off at Delta State University in June, the roadshow will also visit Ekiti State University from July 15 to 17, followed by stops at Ahmadu Bello University, Abia State University, Lagos State University, Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, and Calabar University through the end of the year.
A Dynamic Engagement Platform for Young Adults
Live it 100 on Campus is MTN Nigeria’s premier youth engagement initiative, designed to connect with students at leading educational institutions through a vibrant mix of technology, entertainment, innovation, and empowerment. This interactive three-day roadshow is crafted around the passions and aspirations of young people, showcasing MTN’s offerings while creating opportunities for engagement and personal development.
Partnerships to Enhance Skill Development
To bolster the program’s empowerment focus, MTN has collaborated with the Project Management Institute (PMI), a global leader in project management standards, to offer insights into the essential skills and mindsets necessary for success in an increasingly project-driven economy. The roadshow is expected to engage over 20,000 students, marking one of PMI’s most significant youth outreach efforts in Nigeria.
Educational Sessions to Foster Entrepreneurial Skills
PMI will conduct career enrichment sessions centered on entrepreneurship, innovation, digital transformation, and project leadership. These sessions aim to connect students with industry professionals, illustrating how project management can enhance career prospects in fields such as technology, engineering, business, and the creative economy.
Youth Empowerment in the Face of Change
Dr. George Assamani from PMI for Sub-Saharan Africa emphasizes the importance of practical skills, stating that the future will belong to those capable of turning ideas into reality. In Nigeria, young individuals are increasingly redefining possibilities across various sectors, including technology, music, film, and digital content creation. Ultimately, the ability to lead, collaborate, and solve problems will be crucial for their success.
Emphasizing Adaptability for Future Careers
Temiror Salako, MTN Nigeria’s Senior Manager for Youth and Young Adults, notes that empowering today’s youth goes beyond merely providing access to technology. With many future careers yet to be established, today’s students must navigate a workforce that is evolving at a breakneck speed, necessitating a versatile skill set.
