Tinubu and ADVAN Honor Otega Ogura’s Election to Global Advertising Body
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Advertisers Association of Nigeria (ADVAN) have extended their congratulations to Otega Ogura following his election to the Executive Committee of the World Advertisers Federation (WFA). Leaders believe this achievement will enhance Nigeria’s standing in global marketing and communications.
Ogura, currently serving as the Senior Special Assistant to the President for Digital Engagement, Strategy, and New Media, was elected during the WFA Annual Meeting, held in conjunction with the Global Marketing Week conference in Stockholm, Sweden. The President identified this milestone as a pivotal moment in amplifying Nigeria’s influence in international communications.
Tinubu emphasized that Ogura’s role as the sole representative from West Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa on the committee showcases Nigeria’s substantial expertise in the field. He noted that this accomplishment underscores the contributions of a new generation of Nigerian professionals actively shaping global industry standards.
According to the President, Ogura’s election reflects a growing acknowledgment of Nigeria’s expertise, affirming the nation’s potential to engage meaningfully in the frameworks that dictate global markets. Ogura’s position on ADVAN’s platform as Vice President further highlights the organized advertising industry’s global representation.
The WFA is recognized as the world’s foremost association for advertisers, encompassing more than 150 multinational and Fortune 500 companies, along with national advertiser associations from over 60 countries. The Executive Committee serves as the highest decision-making body within the organization, responsible for setting priorities and guiding policies related to responsible advertising, media transparency, sustainability, and the evolving digital landscape.
President Tinubu expressed that Ogura’s selection is both a personal achievement and a strategic opportunity for Nigeria and Africa. It positions the region prominently within global discussions surrounding brand trust, platform accountability, innovation, and the future of marketing communications. This success falls in line with the administration’s “New Hope” agenda, particularly regarding the promotion of the creative economy and the establishment of Nigeria as a competitive hub for innovation and enterprise.
In a separate statement, ADVAN hailed Ogura’s election as a landmark achievement for Nigeria’s advertising, marketing, and communications sectors. It reflects an increasing recognition of Nigeria’s advertising ecosystem and the role national advertiser associations play in the global governance structure. ADVAN stated that Ogura’s entry into the WFA Executive Committee is timely, given the rapidly changing landscape of global advertising driven by technological disruptions, artificial intelligence, and evolving regulatory frameworks surrounding data and digital platforms.
Leadership and Future Directions in Global Advertising
With Ogura’s election, ADVAN believes the integration of African markets into global advertising governance is significantly strengthened. This highlights the growing contributions of emerging economies to international industry standards. The newly established committee comprises senior executives from global corporations such as IKEA, Nissan, Diageo, Danone, and Tata Group, along with leaders from developed market advertiser associations.
Other notable members of the leadership team include Josh Foulkes and Simon Michaelides, while current President David Weldon and Vice President Philip Myers will continue in their positions. ADVAN reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the Nigerian advertising industry and ensuring sustained representation of Nigerian professionals within global leadership structures.
