Dr. Bonpha Binfa has been designated as the Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Nyak Shendum, Plateau State. Additionally, Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi’s tenure as Director and Chief Executive of the National Library of Nigeria has been renewed.
Professor Babatunde Salako, a distinguished academic, has been appointed as the Chairman of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). His experience spans decades in higher education and national policy leadership, providing a wealth of knowledge to this crucial role.
On April 10, 2026, President Tinubu reappointed the incumbent Director-General, Professor Idris M Bugadje, for a second and final five-year term. This assurance of leadership continuity is expected to bolster the strategic objectives of the NBTE.
Professor Adelabu, who now chairs NECO, is a former professor of educational administration, having ascended to full professorship at Obafemi Awolowo University. She previously served as Deputy Governor of Ekiti State from 2013-2014 and led the NBTE from 2018 to 2021.
Salako, the new NBTE chairman, is celebrated for his leadership at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) from 2016 to 2024, where he enhanced research governance and fostered international collaboration, resulting in improved research outputs.
Dr. Binfa, a Plateau State native, succeeds Dr. Mukaila Zakari Yau as the Rector of the Federal University of Technology, Nyak Shendum. Binfa, who holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, previously held the position of Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at the Federal Institute of Technology, Bonny.
Professor Anunobi’s renewed five-year term as CEO of the National Library of Nigeria, beginning September 2, 2021, aims to sustain institutional reforms that enhance the library’s role as a technology-driven knowledge center. Initiatives under her leadership include the advancement of the Nigerian National Repository and the implementation of the National Virtual Library of Nigeria.
The President’s goal with these appointments is to ensure continuity in the strategic direction of these institutions, particularly in completing ongoing projects like the National Library Headquarters and executing the institution’s comprehensive 2025-2030 strategic plan.
