Government Announces New Leadership Appointments Across Key Agencies
In a significant reshuffle, President Bola Tinubu announced 26 new appointments across 10 federal agencies and commissions on Monday. Among the notable selections are former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, who has been appointed Chairman of the Rural Electrification Authority (REA), and Major General Junaid Bindawa (RTD), now Chair of the National Salary, Income and Wages Commission.
A statement from Presidential Spokesman Bayo Onanuga detailed Mr. Fayose’s role. He will lead a board that includes Mr. Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and engineer Mr. Ilyas Ibrahim Makinta as members and non-executive directors. The board will also feature current Director-General Abba Abubakar Aliyu and three previously appointed executive officers, ensuring continuity alongside new leadership.
In the National Salary, Income and Wages Commission, Major General Bindawa’s appointment comes with a team of eight additional appointees. Mr. Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, a former House of Representatives member from Lagos, is designated the new secretary of the committee. The commission will also welcome Dr. Ogbole Ene Lilian, Dr. Oladele Olatubosun, and Dr. Yakubu Umar Balde, who will represent Benue, Oyo, and Kaduna, respectively.
The commission’s roster adds Dr. Mai Adamu Yau from Borno, Ms. Jinika Florence Toru of Enugu, engineer Mr. Lawrence Okoh from Edo, and Mr. Bello Morenike Iyabodo from Kogi, each contributing unique expertise to the team’s efforts.
Additionally, Mr. Tosin Johnson Adeyanju has transitioned from his role as Executive Director of the National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF) to the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Finance Committee as Executive Director. This strategic move emphasizes the administration’s focus on optimizing financial resources for development.
Other key appointments include Dr. Abu Mohammed as Executive Director of the National Population Commission, Dr. Akinola Odeyemi as Managing Director of Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET), and Dr. Anthony Inalegwu Godwin as Chairman and CEO of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission. Additionally, engineer Julius Oloro has taken the helm as the new CEO of the National Center for Agricultural Mechanization (NCAM), following the passing of Dr. AR Kamal last January.
The President also established the Board of Directors for the Fiscal Responsibility Committee, chaired by Dr. Abdullahi Maikano Saidu. This board includes experts such as Mr. Mohammed Asmau, Mr. Mohammed Aliyu Makama, Dr. Suleiman Gidado, Mr. Louis O. Ndukwe, Mr. Amaechi Agwere, and Mr. Olaniyi Idowu Onyokola, all tasked with ensuring fiscal discipline and accountability.
Lastly, Shuni Muhammad Dahir has been appointed as Secretary-General of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Informal Education, succeeding Professor Shuaib Shehu Aliyu, who has returned to his role at the Petroleum Trust and Development Fund (PTDF) following reappointment in April. Gisaolu Vincent Iorja will replace Mathias Buane, the former Executive Director of Finance at the Federal Housing Corporation, who resigned to pursue a political campaign in Benue State. Iorja, an accomplished economist and jurist, brings a wealth of experience from his current post as Secretary of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC).
All appointments are effective immediately, reinforcing President Tinubu’s commitment to enhancing governance and operational efficiency within federal structures.
