Tinubu’s Administration Moves to Accelerate Infrastructure Development
In a significant move, President Bola Tinubu announced on Wednesday that his administration is committed to eliminating delays in public infrastructure projects and the cycle of repeated budget allocations. This declaration came during the commissioning of the fully developed Obafemi Awolowo Way, an essential N5 arterial road linking Life Camp Junction and Ring Road III in Abuja’s Dape area.
Focus on Sustainable Growth and National Identity
Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Communications, revealed this information through a statement titled “As FCT evolves into a worthy capital under APC.” President Tinubu emphasized his goal to transform Abuja into a capital that truly reflects the nation’s population growth, economic aspirations, and national identity. He stated that infrastructure serves as a benchmark for countries to demonstrate their commitment to development.
Infrastructure as a Measure of Progress
“Infrastructural development is the measure by which every civilized nation expresses its seriousness. No capital can carry the weight of national ambitions if its arteries are blocked by neglect, excuses, and abandoned promises,” President Tinubu remarked. He pointed out that the recently completed project was awarded to Julius Berger and was conceived, funded, and executed entirely under his administration.
Ending the Cycle of Abandoned Projects
President Tinubu noted that unlike previous administrations, which allowed projects like this to become long-term budget items riddled with delays, his government has taken a different approach. “Those days are over,” he asserted, stressing that there were no interruptions or setbacks in the construction and repair of inherited road projects.
Enhancing Connectivity and Economic Opportunities
The newly completed N5 corridor facilitates high-speed connectivity across Dape, Karmo, Gwarinpa I, Kado, Idu, and Mbola, significantly enhancing access to the Idu industrial area. For years, Life Camp Junction has been notorious for severe traffic congestion, adversely affecting both residents and local businesses. The President explained that the completion of this corridor brings the visions laid out in the Abuja Master Plan to fruition, promoting seamless district connectivity.
Call for Community Responsibility
Recognizing the potential impact of improved transport connectivity on logistics costs and job creation, President Tinubu praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for his efforts in promoting infrastructure development. He remarked, “The Honorable Minister has shown what happens when political will meets responsibility. We fund projects to see results, not to hear accounts of failure.”
Collaboration for Future Development
The President urged residents and businesses to meet their tax obligations and related payments to bolster the FCT administration’s capacity for further projects. He also called upon traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents to safeguard public infrastructure against vandalism. Minister Wike highlighted the unprecedented pace of development in satellite cities and communities under the Tinubu administration, referring to it as a testament to the FCT’s “New Hope” agenda.
Dr. Mariya Mahmud, the Minister of State for FCT, echoed these sentiments, lauding President Tinubu’s commitment to infrastructure advancement and praising the Vice President’s support for FCT initiatives. Richard Doda, Executive Director of the Federal Capital Development Authority, added that this commissioning contributes to a growing roster of completed projects under the current administration, which will drastically improve the region’s road infrastructure, particularly in connecting neighboring communities.
