President Tinubu Considers Enhanced Benefits for Information Personnel
Mohamed Idris, Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, has announced that President Bola Tinubu is evaluating options for improving welfare benefits for intelligence personnel within the Ministry and its agencies. This initiative aims to bolster the overall well-being of workers in Nigeria’s information sector, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen public services and enhance service delivery.
The minister made this announcement during the Civil Service Week celebrations in Abuja, as noted in a statement released by Dr. Suleiman Haruna, the Director-General for Press and Public Relations. The second day of the event included the presentation of certificates to deserving civil servants, recognizing their exceptional dedication, professionalism, and contributions to the department’s growth.
Vision for Improving Worker Welfare
During his address to department officials, Idris emphasized that President Tinubu has tasked them with identifying practical solutions to enhance worker welfare in the information sector. He reassured civil servants that the administration remains dedicated to valuing excellence and commitment within the workforce.
“For the first time, I want to clarify that we are actively collaborating with the President,” Idris stated. “He has specifically asked me to explore ways to improve benefits for those in the intelligence sector.” The minister confirmed the President’s intention to see these improvements realized.
The Role of Civil Servants in Governance
Idris praised civil servants for their resilience, dedication, and patriotism, referring to them as the backbone of governance and essential partners in nation-building. He underscored the strategic role of the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation in fostering national unity, disseminating accurate information, and enhancing public understanding of government initiatives.
According to Idris, information should be a unifying tool that promotes development and national cohesion, rather than a source of division. He reiterated the ministry’s commitment to advancing President Bola Tinubu’s “New Hope” agenda through effective communication and public engagement.
Achievements and Ongoing Reforms
Idris highlighted several accomplishments of the Tinubu administration, including economic reforms aimed at improving revenue performance and strengthening foreign exchange reserves. He also pointed to continuous infrastructure development and the expansion of access to higher education via the Nigeria Education Financing Fund (NELFUND).
Additionally, he remarked on the ongoing security initiatives in partnership with security agencies and international entities, asserting that these efforts are gradually yielding positive results in tackling insecurity and enhancing public safety throughout the nation.
Call for Commitment and Professionalism
The minister urged officials to recommit to the principles of professionalism, integrity, and selfless service. He emphasized that sustainable national development is largely contingent on the efficiency and dedication of civil servants, stating, “No country can achieve its goals without dedicated public servants. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu cannot do it alone; we all must contribute to building the Nigeria we envision.”
Celebrating Civil Service Contributions
Idris also commended Dr. Binielem Ukyire, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, for his exemplary leadership and commitment to staff welfare. Ukyire noted in his opening remarks that civil servants are the invisible driving force behind governance, ensuring the effective delivery of services that foster national development.
He expressed that the Civil Service Week celebrations are an opportunity to recognize and appreciate the significant contributions of civil servants, who work tirelessly behind the scenes. Ukyire urged staff to remain committed to the core tenets of the Federal Civil Service Strategic Implementation Plan (FCSSIP), emphasizing efficiency, productivity, integrity, and citizen-centered service.
