Trump to Open Great American State Fair Amid 250th Anniversary Celebrations
President Donald Trump is slated to deliver a keynote address at the Great American State Fair this June as part of a nationwide celebration marking the 250th anniversary of the United States, taking place in Washington, D.C.
Daniel Alvarez, a spokesperson for Freedom 250, the advocacy group supporting the event, announced that the president will officially launch this momentous celebration on June 24. This highlights Trump’s ongoing engagement with his supporters and his role in the country’s historical narrative.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump suggested that he might host an “America is Back” rally in conjunction with the fair after several recording artists withdrew from the event. Initially scheduled to run from June 24 to July 10 on Washington’s National Mall, the fair has seen some of its musical acts opt out citing political concerns.
Trump expressed his intent to replace the canceled performances with his own. He characterized himself as “the number one attraction anywhere in the world,” comparing his drawing power to that of legendary performers like Elvis Presley. “Artists, give a big speech to move our country forward, as you have done since I became president!” he stated in his social media post, further emphasizing his belief in his unique appeal.
While it was anticipated that Trump would headline the July 4 event, his role at the opening ceremony signifies his deeper involvement in this celebratory occasion, according to organizers familiar with the planning process.
Freedom 250, established as a public-private partnership during the Trump administration, is responsible for orchestrating events commemorating the nation’s 250th anniversary. The organization recently unveiled a list of entertainers scheduled to perform on weekends throughout the summer fair, despite the challenges posed by the withdrawal of key artists.
The announcement of the artist lineup led to notable withdrawals from performers like Morris Day and the Time, Young MC, and Martina McBride, who cited a lack of awareness regarding the event’s political nature. While Freedom 250 has yet to announce replacement artists, the organization maintains that it is not inherently political, asserting its bipartisan focus on unity as the nation approaches this significant milestone.
This situation reflects the complexities surrounding two distinct national organizations—Freedom 250 and America 250—that are both tasked with organizing events for the anniversary. While America 250 was established in response to congressional legislation nearly a decade ago, Freedom 250 was created through a recent executive order under President Trump.
Freedom 250 is poised to host several key events this summer, including the FIFA World Cup 2026 Fan Zone, the Salute to America 250 Celebration and Fireworks on July 4, and a National Fitness Competition known as the Patriot Games in August. Alvarez described the upcoming Great American State Fair as “a world’s fair that celebrates the people, traditions, innovation, and spirit that make America the greatest nation on earth,” promising an array of attractions from national exhibits to spectacular performances.
With the event set to feature family attractions, film screenings, and military ensembles, attendees can also look forward to an iconic Ferris wheel on the National Mall, adding to the fair’s festive atmosphere.
