APC Leaders Endorse Chief Emuobo Gbagi for Delta State House of Assembly
Chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) along with leaders from Ugievwen have collectively endorsed Chief Emuobo Gbagi as the frontrunner for the Ughelli South constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly in anticipation of the 2027 general elections.
This endorsement unfolded during a stakeholder meeting held in Otu Jeremi on Sunday, wherein local leaders, alongside youth and women representatives, unanimously selected Gbagi as the sole candidate to contest against the incumbent Member of Parliament in the edging elections.
Mr. Olorogun Matthew Ofioguma, who presented the motion for Gbagi’s endorsement, articulated that the decision stemmed from thorough consultations among stakeholders across the region. He asserted that Gbagi’s extensive experience and commendable character position him well to represent the people of Ughelli South effectively.
According to Ofioguma, the collective sentiment during discussions highlighted Gbagi as the most qualified candidate. “His Excellency M’Obo Gbagi possesses the requisite experience, character, and qualifications to represent us in Ughelli South Local Government,” he stated, with his motion being seconded by Mr. Olorogun Godwin Sito and subsequently adopted by all present.
During the gathering, Ughelli South United Forum Chairman Godwin Okporoko reaffirmed the group’s commitment to supporting President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor Hon. Sheriff Obolewori. He emphasized that, as 2027 approaches, the residents of Ughelli South are resolved to stand behind a unified candidate for the House of Representatives seat.
Okporoko remarked on the pervasive nature of politics in shaping community development, declaring, “We have come together to work for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Obolewori towards the 2027 elections.” He reiterated the forum’s consensus against any alternative candidates, underscoring their collective backing for Gbagi.
Prominent academic and elder statesman Professor Godwin Dara also expressed concerns regarding the constituency’s representation, stressing the fundamental responsibilities of MPs toward effective legislation and resident welfare. Dara highlighted the need for suitable candidates, firmly stating his objection to what he called the imposition of candidates not supported by the community.
Dara stated, “If the governor supports an unpopular candidate, it will tarnish his track record of fairness and justice. The forthcoming elections will be adversely affected if a non-viable candidate is selected.” He criticized the current representatives for a noticeable absence of impactful projects over recent years, emphasizing that Ughelli South is rich in both natural resources and human talent.
Additional speakers at the event, including Mr. Olorogun Vincent Oduaran, Mr. Michael Oshetigo, and Chief Egwolo Ogbon, echoed the sentiment by endorsing Gbagi as the singular candidate for the Delta State House of Assembly seat for the Ughelli South constituency, aligning with the vision for a progressive political landscape.
