Upcoming Handover Ceremony in Abuja
Scheduled for June 2, 2026, the handover ceremony in Abuja marks a critical milestone in the Teacher Capacity Building Project, designed to promote sustained and inclusive access to quality education for girls in West Africa. Funded by the Government of Japan, the initiative is being executed in collaboration with the UNESCO International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (UNESCO-IICBA).
Strategic Investment in Nigeria’s Education System

This initiative aims to address several pressing educational challenges within the region, including low academic performance, high dropout rates, learning poverty, gender disparities, and a shortage of qualified teachers. By focusing on these issues, the project aspires to transform educational quality and accessibility across six West African nations.

The educational institutions receiving aid will benefit from an array of modern ICT equipment. This includes 65 laptops, 71 tablets, 4 desktop computers, 5 interactive smart boards, 19 all-in-one computers, 14 projectors, 15 printers, and 15 backup hard drives, which will significantly enhance the digital learning environment.

Other institutions include various colleges of education in states like Enugu, Kano, and Sokoto, all contributing to a nationwide effort to uplift educational standards and better support teachers and students alike.
Collaboration with African Union Education Teams
In partnership with the African Union International Center for Girls’ Education (AU/CIEFFA) and the African Union’s Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation (ESTI) team based in Addis Ababa, the project aims to bolster gender-sensitive and conflict-sensitive educational practices. This collaboration is expected to significantly improve not only the educational landscape for girls but also enhance retention rates and learning outcomes in underserved and conflict-affected areas.
