Veritas University Expands Academic Offerings with New Programs
Veritas University in Abuja has broadened its academic offerings by launching five new departments, a move recently sanctioned by the National Universities Commission (NUC). This initiative aims to enhance the university’s technology-driven education and effectively prepare students for the evolving demands of the global job market.
The newly approved programs include a Bachelor of Artificial Intelligence, Bachelor of Cybersecurity, Bachelor of Information Systems, Bachelor of Data Science, and Bachelor of Theater Arts. This expansion raises the total number of academic programs available at the university to 43, spanning across 12 faculties and the School of Medicine.
Ben Agunde, the university’s head of corporate affairs and communications, announced the development in a statement on Tuesday. He highlighted that Veritas University already offers a robust selection of courses, including fields such as law, medicine and surgery, software engineering, nursing, pharmacy, computer engineering, and electrical engineering.
Agunde emphasized the university’s commitment to responding to industry trends and preparing its students for the future labor market in a swiftly evolving global environment. The introduction of these new departments is part of a broader initiative to fortify the university’s academic landscape, particularly within computing and emerging technologies.
Vice-Chancellor Fr. Professor Hyacinth Ichok stated that the aim of these new programs is to strengthen the university’s academic stature, especially in the fields of advanced computing and technology. He explained that the curriculum will integrate advanced computational thinking, human-centered design, and comprehensive data analysis techniques, ensuring students are well-prepared for careers in the fast-paced digital landscape.
Ichok underscored the importance of providing students with relevant skills early in their academic careers to enhance their competitiveness. “As artificial intelligence and data science continue to play pivotal roles in various sectors, we must not lag behind,” he said. The university aims to offer personalized learning experiences that will address educational gaps and equip students to protect both institutional and national data.
Highlighting the rising demand for digital skills, the Vice-Chancellor noted that the new programs in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, and information systems directly respond to global educational and employment trends. As the reliance on digital systems increases, the need for data protection and technological innovation positions these fields as some of the fastest-growing sectors worldwide.
By incorporating these disciplines into its curriculum, Veritas University aligns itself with other leading higher education institutions in Nigeria, adhering to global educational standards and labor market realities. Prospective students interested in these and existing programs are encouraged to visit the university’s admissions portal for application details and requirements.
