Wafanini Teman Launches Gubernatorial Campaign Focused on Youth and Women Empowerment
Wafanini Teman, the Youth Progressive Party (YYP) gubernatorial candidate for Adamawa State, officially kicked off his election campaign in Yola on Saturday. His agenda places a strong emphasis on empowering youth and women, enhancing security, and promoting transparent governance.
Commitment to Service Over Power
After securing his position as the party’s gubernatorial candidate at the YYP state assembly and primaries, Wafanini addressed his supporters. He emphasized that his candidacy is rooted in a desire to serve the community rather than merely seeking power for its own sake.
Critique of Leadership Failures in Adamawa
Wafanini voiced his concerns about the persistent underachievement of Adamawa State, despite its abundant resources. He pointed out that the state’s youth, farmers, and families have faced stagnation due to ineffective leadership over the years.
A Political Platform for Change
Candidates from the YPP expressed their motivations to campaign as a response to widespread dissatisfaction with the existing political landscape. They described the YPP as a space grounded in “the politics of ideas” rather than intimidation and a commitment to “service, not selfishness.” Their goal is to break the cycle of unfulfilled promises and abandoned projects, which they believe have hindered progress.
Prioritizing Job Creation and Economic Development
Wafanini articulated his commitment to job creation for youth as a central priority. He plans to invest in various sectors such as skills acquisition, digital employment, agriculture, and financing for small businesses. His administration aims to equip young people with the necessary tools and capital to thrive with their talents and innovative ideas.
Focus on Security and Community Collaboration
The candidate also underscored the critical link between security and meaningful development. He pledged to collaborate with local communities, traditional rulers, and security agencies to combat violence and restore public confidence across the 21 local government areas in Adamawa.
Enhancing Education and Healthcare
Wafanini plans a comprehensive reform of both education and healthcare systems in the state. He promised to rebuild primary schools, equip hospitals, and make healthcare more affordable, ensuring that children’s futures are no longer dependent solely on their parents’ financial circumstances.
Infrastructure and Agriculture as Growth Catalysts
Recognizing the importance of infrastructure and agriculture in driving economic growth, Wafanini committed to improving roads, water supply, and electricity services. He aims to assist farmers in transitioning from subsistence agriculture to agro-industrial production to add value to Adamawa’s fertile land.
Transparent Governance and Unity Among Ethnic Groups
The YPP government, according to Wafanini, would prioritize transparency by publishing its budget and monitoring project implementations. He envisions an end to secret contracts and “white elephant” projects that deplete public resources. Furthermore, he highlighted that Adamawa’s strength lies in its diversity of over 80 ethnic groups, asserting that his government would be inclusive, with no community left behind.
A Call for Collective Engagement in the 2027 General Elections
Wafanini characterized the 2027 general elections as a collective endeavor rather than a personal ambition. He urged voters to join him in building the envisioned Adamawa for future generations, stating that “with the YPP and your vote, a new Adamawa is possible.”
