Lawyer Calls for Nyesom Wike’s Appointment as Minister of Transport
In light of the significant transformation underway in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ikenna Afumibe, an Abuja-based lawyer and human rights advocate, has urged President Bola Tinubu to appoint FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to the Federal Ministry of Transport. Afumibe emphasized that Wike’s expertise could revolutionize Nigeria’s underperforming railway sector.
In a statement issued yesterday, Afumibe praised Wike’s performance as the FCT minister and advocated for his transition to the transport sector, which he believes is in dire need of revitalization. He noted that Wike has demonstrated considerable efficacy in execution and completion of critical infrastructure projects across Abuja.
“Wike has emerged as one of the most capable members of the Tinubu administration, showcasing his ability to deliver essential infrastructure on time,” Afumibe stated, asserting that Wike’s record underscores the leadership qualities necessary to transform Nigeria’s transportation system.
The lawyer stressed that the railway sector requires visionary and results-driven leaders who can effectively expand the network across Nigeria, ensuring connectivity between all states through modern transport infrastructure. Afumibe highlighted that enhancing the rail network would significantly stimulate economic growth, facilitate interstate commerce, lower transportation costs, create jobs, and enhance national cohesion.
“Over the past three years, Wike has proven himself as an exceptional leader, demonstrating efficiency and a steadfast commitment to tangible results,” he said. Afumibe argued that Wike possesses the determination, executive capabilities, and management experience essential to overseeing such a comprehensive national project. “Given his proven track record in delivering projects promptly, Mr. Wike stands out as one of the most qualified officials in this administration capable of connecting all states by rail,” he added.
While acknowledging that Wike remains a contentious political figure, Afumibe contended that his ability to efficiently complete projects cannot be overlooked. “Wike has consistently proven that he can deliver substantial results on schedule, which is crucial for revitalizing Nigeria’s transport infrastructure,” he remarked.
Afumibe further noted that Wike’s experience as a political strategist and entrepreneur could accelerate the federal government’s infrastructure initiatives, potentially leaving a lasting impact on the railway sector. He reiterated that as the administration pursues its agenda for renewal, appointing capable leaders to strategic roles is vital for achieving the nation’s development objectives.
“Wike would be a valuable addition to this administration. His expertise could effectively transform Nigeria’s railway system to better serve all regions,” Afumibe concluded. He urged President Tinubu to give strong consideration to this proposal, asserting that urgent attention to Nigeria’s transport infrastructure is key to unlocking the country’s economic potential.
Afumibe expressed optimism that Wike’s leadership at the Ministry of Transport would expedite the modernization and expansion of the rail network, thereby enhancing connectivity and economic opportunities across the nation.
