WILAN Unveils Integrated Leadership Suite for Women
The Women in Leadership Advancement Network (WILAN) has launched the WILAN Leadership Suite, a comprehensive digital ecosystem aimed at empowering women’s leadership, enhancing civic engagement, and improving access to mentorship and career development. This initiative also focuses on bolstering digital safety for women.
Addressing Gender Disparities in Nigerian Politics
This initiative emerges in response to the concerning underrepresentation of women in Nigeria’s political landscape, where women occupy only approximately 4.5 percent of parliamentary seats. Alarmingly, 15 state legislatures currently have no female members at all.
Engaging Citizens Through a New Campaign
Accompanying the launch is an online campaign titled “What’s Your Move?” designed to inspire Nigerians to actively participate in fostering inclusive leadership and to connect them with opportunities within the new platform.
A Comprehensive Suite of Tools for Empowerment
The Leadership Suite includes three distinct platforms. MyDreamGov serves as a civic engagement tool that enables users to discover and nominate women leaders while providing insights into governmental processes and facilitating discussions on governance. The BIIRD platform fosters professional networking by offering mentorship, a leadership community, and AI-driven career guidance. Lastly, the Learn App features leadership programs, masterclasses, and professional development resources tailored for women at various stages of their careers.
Future Expansions of the Leadership Suite
WILAN has indicated plans to enhance the suite further in the upcoming months with the launch of ZIMA, an AI-enabled civic education and political leadership platform, along with Nana, an AI-driven digital safety companion aimed at helping women identify, prevent, and respond to technology-facilitated gender-based violence. Notably, to ensure user privacy, Nana will operate independently from the Leadership Suite’s single sign-on system.
Call for Recognition and Support of Women Leaders
During the launch, WILAN founder, Abosede George Ogun, emphasized that Nigerian women are already displaying leadership in various sectors but require greater acknowledgment and assistance. She stated, “Across Nigeria, women are already leading, solving problems and creating impact every day.” Ogun questioned whether sufficient efforts are being made to recognize and support these talented individuals.
Empowering Citizens to Shape Leadership
Ogun also highlighted the Leadership Suite’s purpose: to expand access to leadership opportunities and equip citizens with tools to influence governance. She remarked, “If we want better leadership, we need to broaden our view of who can lead and give our people the tools to shape that leadership.” The “What’s Your Move?” campaign calls on all Nigerians to engage and rally behind emerging leaders while emphasizing the importance of acknowledging, supporting, and championing them.
Commitment to Removing Barriers for Women
WILAN asserts that the integrated platform exemplifies its dedication to leveraging technology as a means to dismantle barriers to women’s leadership. The initiative provides sustained support across learning, mentoring, civic engagement, political leadership, and digital safety. The BIIRD app, Learn app, and MyDreamGov are now available for users to leverage.
