A rising officer within the Houston Independent School District (ISD) was detained on Friday by agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Alim Garipov, an 18-year-old student from Russia enrolled at Bellaire High School, is currently being held at the Montgomery Processing Center in Conroe, Texas.
According to ICE, Garipov entered the United States in May 2022; his initial visa permitted him to stay for six months. Friends of the Garipov family stated they were in the process of applying for asylum to secure legal residency in the country.
