Franklin Soccer Coach Sentenced for Child Sexual Abuse
A former soccer coach in Franklin, accused of years of child sexual abuse, has received a 30-year federal prison sentence after pleading guilty to charges of child sexual exploitation and related immigration offenses. Camilo Campos Hurtado, 66, was sentenced on July 2 to 360 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Tennessee.
Prosecutors Push for Longer Sentence
Federal prosecutors advocated for a 50-year sentence, citing the severity and duration of Campos-Hurtado’s crimes as justification for increased prison time intended to safeguard the public. However, the judge ultimately imposed a 30-year sentence.
Extradition Expected Following Sentence
Once Campos-Hurtado completes his federal sentence and any remaining time on his state sentence, he is anticipated to be extradited to Mexico due to his illegal status in the United States.
Details of Charges and Plea
Campos-Hurtado’s sentencing follows a year of legal proceedings, including federal charges and a guilty plea. On June 17, 2025, he admitted to multiple counts, including four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, one count of receiving child sexual abuse materials, and immigration-related charges.
Investigation Uncovers Disturbing Evidence
The investigation began in June 2023 after explicit videos were discovered on a cellphone that Campos-Hurtado had abandoned at a local business. A concerned citizen reported the find to the Franklin Police Department, prompting an extensive investigation that involved both local police and the Department of Homeland Security.
Search Warrants Reveal Alarming Findings
During the investigation, authorities executed several search warrants at Campos-Hurtado’s home and vehicle, recovering electronic devices containing child sexual abuse material along with numerous counterfeit immigration documents and identity cards. The investigation revealed that Campos-Hurtado had sexually abused children, frequently incapacitating his victims with drugs and alcohol before recording the assaults.
Long History of Abuse
While the federal charges stem from crimes committed between 2017 and 2021, forensic examinations of his electronic devices revealed material dating back to at least January 2013. On March 20, 2024, a federal grand jury indicted Campos-Hurtado on multiple charges in addition to a previous grand jury indictment from Williamson County for 17 counts of rape and various other sex crimes extending over decades.
Justice Department’s Commitment to Protecting Children
U.S. Attorney Braden H. Boucek remarked that the sentence reflects the gravity of Campos-Hurtado’s offenses. He emphasized the Justice Department’s commitment to safeguarding children from sexual exploitation and commended the collaborative efforts of Homeland Security Investigations, the Franklin Police Department, and the community members who contributed to the investigation.
Campos-Hurtado will remain in federal custody until he completes his 30-year sentence, after which he is slated for extradition to Mexico to face possible further legal ramifications.
