Expansion of Flexible Office Space in Nigeria’s Capital
Global workspace provider IWG has enhanced its footprint in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by launching a new Regus coworking facility in Jabi, Abuja. This initiative responds to the increasing demand for flexible office solutions in Nigeria.
The opening ceremony, attended by business leaders and stakeholders, marked Regus’ sixth location in Abuja, contributing to the company’s strategy of expanding its presence in Nigeria’s key commercial districts.
Ayo Akinmade, IWG’s Country Manager, emphasized the facility’s role in offering businesses ready-to-use office infrastructure, alleviating the challenges associated with establishing and maintaining traditional workspaces. The Jabi center is being rolled out in two phases; the first phase is already operational, offering two levels equipped with nine offices, three meeting rooms, a lounge, kitchenette, reception services, and various business support amenities.
Akinmade also noted that the second phase, currently under construction, is expected to be completed within two months. It will mirror the existing structure to create a larger, integrated workspace environment.
Jabi was chosen strategically to cover a significant business area in Abuja, rounding out IWG’s existing operations in the Central Business District and the Transcorp axis. Akinmade stated, “We are assessing various business regions in Abuja, with Jabi and the airport corridor being primary locations for enhanced coverage.”
The demand for flexible office solutions is driving this expansion, as many companies favor plug-and-play environments over heavy investments in office infrastructure. Akinmade explained, “Our aim is to foster an environment where clients can simply bring their laptops and start working.” Moreover, subscribers to Regus benefit from access to a global network of more than 7,000 affiliated workspaces, which includes locations in Lagos, Port Harcourt, London, and other major cities.
Under this model, customers pay a monthly subscription that grants them unfettered access to any Regus facility in the network, depending on their membership plan. Sylvester Egweni, Head of Logitech Integrated Services, spoke at the event, describing the partnership with Regus as a strategic alignment aimed at bolstering Logitech’s global presence. He highlighted the shared commitment between the two organizations to deliver infrastructure and workspace solutions.
During the ceremony, Akinmade and Egweni inaugurated the facility by cutting the ribbon, followed by a tour led by center manager Esther Omena. The event also featured a presentation on Regus products and services by Josh Durgamma, the company’s Sales Director, while closing remarks were provided by Oyebimpe Oyedeji, IWG’s Property Director.
Addressing concerns about potential misuse of coworking spaces, Akinmade reassured attendees that the company has reinforced its Know Your Customer procedures in collaboration with law enforcement agencies. Prospective customers will need to present identification and proof of address before accessing office facilities. He further noted, “While some business disputes might be misconstrued as fraudulent activities, we remain vigilant in identifying suspicious behavior and will promptly notify security authorities if necessary.” Akinmade reiterated IWG’s commitment to facilitating legitimate business operations while enhancing compliance processes in coordination with relevant authorities.
